It's necessary. I agree. Admins exist for a reason and serve a purpose. But when you get into a "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?" debate it becomes a topic that needs to be addressed. I don't have enough expertise to give an answer to such an existential question so I'll have to leave it to anyone else to hash it out from here.

Definitely a baby step in the correct direction.

I want an internet where admins don't control the world. Where moderators don't become megalomaniacs that get to control the way submissions and comments get banned without reason.

I want a place where someone's passion for their unique hobby doesn't get stripped away by corporate interests, exploitative third parties, and ad agencies.

I know it might be a pipe dream but I'll keep trying to fight for what I believe.

This is literally one of a handful of times in my life where I will begrudgingly accept that word.

It doesn't make me proud.

I'm so happy you replied. This has been a really great follow-up. I'll definitely share your story whenever I can. There's always a little bit of light out there.

That's an incredible lineage to say the least. Keep spreading the history that so often goes unacknowledged. It gets suppressed, rewritten, and glossed over all too often.

Do you have have any family memories from your grandfather from that time?

My town was named after a Native American Chief so it had a heavy influence on some of the lessons including the whole inhumane way we ruthlessly pursued the Manifest Destiny mentality *as a country, not my town in particular.

At my US high school we spent two days in mandatory silence walking around the classroom viewing these types of Holocaust pictures and reading descriptions of the images.

We spent the rest of the lesson arc discussing and unpacking the atrocities and horror of radicalization, hatred, ignorance, and war as a group. It was a surreal experience.

We had a similar experience in US history with slavery and the Civil Rights movement.

My cat would sit during boxing matches and box along at the TV. He was so gentle but that cat loved a good fight.

This was before UFC got big, though. I'm not sure I would've trusted him with that sport lol

911 doesn't just activate police. It activates Fire and Emergency Medical Srvices aka ambulances if your life is in danger for any reason.

People like me?... I don't like to reveal a lot about myself online. That being said, I've talked many people out of committing suicide or self harm. I've said before in other comments that I'm in the medical field at a high level.

Positive mental health treatment is an extremely important subject to me. I stand by what I've said because I've been there when people have been in crisis.

Kneeling down and talking to a newly diagnosed schizophrenic 18 year old in an isolation room or a suicidal 16 year old girl is not easy and sometimes even dangerous.

All I'm trying to do here is give people immediately available resources if they're feeling unwell.
