Maybe? I definitely interact with more users lately who seem unable to make a point without being a condescending ass hat at the same time. Couldn't say for sure if they're coming over from Reddit, though.

I'm vaguely familiar with fdroid, but thanks for linking. My understanding is that fdroid doesnt support automatic updates, though I might be wrong. I use obtainium instead.

Amazon store is indeed another option. Personally my issue with the Google play store is the sketchiness of the company though, so Amazon isn't a good alternative for people like myself.

I don't use iOS and have only been able to install many popular apps through APKs sourced from other sites like github and apkpure.

Ill admit I don't know much about side loading but I think that only supports my original point that the average user isnt aware of less intuitive alternatives to the play store.

Just try getting a popular app anywhere else. There are options of course, but they require a working knowledge of APKs and other technical concepts which many casual users may not be familiar with. Even once you get them installed, these apps often don't work without play services, and -- depending on the source -- can be less secure.

Okay, so what does that have to with this policy, which only impacts English language universities? High tuition is a problem across Canada, yes, but that doesn't justify unfair or discriminatory policies based around language in Quebec.

Again, whattaboutism with no relevance to the story being discussed here. Unless you're arguing that Quebec shouldnt be held accountable for this decision just because other provinces have problems as well.

If you're saying that French language universities in Quebec are underfunded compared to English universities, I'd love to see some data to support that. Because anecdotally, I've attended multiple English schools in Quebec -- including one of the universities cited in this story -- and I can tell you they were far from being well-funded.

And if French universities are comparably or better funded than their English equivalents, and yet people still prefer going to English schools, then maybe the real issue may be the quality of education that's available. Or maybe people want to attend university in Quebec without necessarily living and working there afterward.

Also, pretty sure New Brunswick is also a French province; its an official language there.

Can't wait to hear arguments from those who have deluded themselves into believing this is about protecting Quebec's culture.

Because its totally not about pushing anglophones and other minorities out of the province. We all know that Papa Legault just loves them. /s

I don't disagree with that in theory, but like you pointed out... Who's going to enforce it in practice? Shouldn't have to be me, or anyone else who doesn't work for public transit.

Nope, not worth it. I've stopped trying to convince others to be considerate in public. They'll either ignore you or blow up and get aggressive. I'd rather just try to ignore them myself and move on with my life.

And at the end of the day, I'm also not some authority figure like their mom or dad; I'm nobody to them. As much as I may not always like it, strangers don't owe me anything, including their consideration.

So, yet another agreement with a proposed deadline that is decades in the future. Countries will continue with the same bullshit, then just shift the goal post as they approach the deadline. Completely useless.

To those down voting this person, I really don't think its called for here. There's nothing to suggest they're some troll trying to spread misinformation. The details of this conflict have been kept intentionally vague; coming to a different conclusion doesn't necessarily imply bad intentions.
