  • I guess the tauon decays of its own volition then.

  • Props to English for having two words for these two very similar concepts. German only has ‘jump’ which has to mean both (as far as I’m aware).

  • Windows is the best operating system.

  • Don’t worry. In transit Coke is almost pure acid. It won’t react violently with Mentos.

  • That Head First about design patterns actually takes heavy inspiration from the Gang of Four. I haven’t read both (only Head First), but I’d wager you don’t need to read GoF if you’ve read Head First.

Only the writing style… is somewhat cringy.

  • It would’ve been nice if you had provided sources for any of your claims instead of just alluding to them. But I get that you don’t have time between all the angry frothing.

I’m done arguing in good faith with you. At least I get the hate for lemmy.ml now.

  • Liberal tries to deport people without due process = good?..

Wrong. They’re not expelled without due process. In fact, they’re currently suing against it. It doesn’t get any due-process-ier.

"[…] In allen vier Fällen haben wir Klagen beim Verwaltungsgericht Berlin eingereicht", sagte Alexander Gorski. […]

(Abridged and paraphrased): In all four cases we have filed lawsuits at the Verwaltungsgericht (court for administrative affairs) Berlin, Alexander Gorski [their lawyer] said.

In order for them to stay in Germany until the lawsuit is settled, we have also filed an emergency motion with the Verwaltungsgericht to delay the expulsion order.

The Verwaltungsgericht confirmed that the defendants don’t have to leave Germany until the court decides on the emergency motions.

  • Is that one of those instances where the doctors of old tried to look at animals and project that knowledge onto humans?

  • Lying about his own opinion? What a mental feat!

  • No offence, but this is useless advice and exactly the reason why I wanted official data. “Usually”s and “Shoulds” don’t help. Especially for a completely different graphics card.

  • I would’ve liked some sort of official source, since other sites may have errors. (Of course the Nvidia page could contain errors, too, but I assumed they’d be more scrutinized than page number 328 which scrapes these details.)

  • When people get promoted to senior dev, they have lost all will to live. Their code reflects that.

It works well enough to keep the boss man off my back. I’ll go home now.

  • Same question: If a species evolves to adapt to a changed environment, is the original species extinct?

Yes, yes it is. That’s why a species ‘going extinct’ doesn’t always mean that it suddenly died off.

  • I’ll give it to you, you found one. However in this comment Obelix is merely stating that the article (or blog post or whatever the context of this was) glosses over the details of the ‘due to allegations’ part. There are other comments (e.g. https://feddit.org/comment/5759379) where Obelix’ stance is clearer, which, as I read it, can be paraphrased as: Violent protesters caused massive damages in a German university and threatened employees. It is the state’s right to expel violent protesters.

This is not at all the stance the meme implies.

  • Show me one member of feddit.org who is in favor of deporting those four students.

  • Give it a few years, and you’ll have to emigrate to the … uh… New Zealand, maybe?

  • In my younger years I tried to make sense of the ‘God created humans’ thing by envisioning lots of aliens species with lots of gods, each catering for their own pets. Then I wondered if these gods would compete over who had the best pet, or would go to war with each other.

  • The single most bestest book that I wish my very first programming teacher would’ve hit me over the head with is “Code Complete 2” by Steve McConnell. I’ve only encountered it a few years into my studies, and time and again I thought: I had to figure this out myself!

It’s basically a collection of all the things you can consider, or think about, or do or do differently when programming. Nothing in there is revolutionary, and none of it is something you couldn’t come up with yourself, but I found it immensely helpful to have the content laid out in a structured way.

  • A commit all by itself doesn’t mean as much without context.

Luckily a commit points to its parent, which means the context is inherently present. What’s your point?

Why would I not want to be able to apply a commit to any arbitrary branch?

    Nobody said that.

Any shortcomings it may have aren’t necessarily due to a flaw in git.

    True enough.
