  • I can’t of anything that makes an unwanted sound. Old CRT TVs used to, but I haven’t used one in years. My monitor at work makes a sound when it turns on or off (I believe there’s an ass-old fuse in there), but it makes no sound otherwise.

I’m still young and hear very well, as exemplified by my annoyance of half-closed bottles of carbonated drinks, which do make a sound.

  • I find this a highly interesting problem. How do you measure how much CPU time a program needs? The OS has ceded its control of the CPU to the program. Does it just look at the clock after it’s in charge again to derive a program’s load?

While we’re at it: How does the OS even yank the CPU away from the currently running process?

  • Finally! I haven’t had to maintain servers in the last few years, but I had to when the switch to ‘nginx Pro’ happened and all of a sudden basic documentation was buried in the who-knows-where.

  • It’s not the measurement system’s fault people like to fall down two notches and use hundreds of milliliters instead. The same applies to decimeters. Most people use meters and centimeters for some reason.

  • no obligation to pretend we don’t see his obvious guilt

You don’t seem to get the point of presuming innocence. It is a guardrail against vigilantism. When people start making up their own minds about “obvious” guilt, it’s only a tiny step to dole out “righteous“ punishment, which, of course, it never is.

Basic rights are for everyone, not just those on your own political team.

By the way, you do have the obligation to not “see his obvious guilt”. For instance, you cannot call someone a rapist just because you feel like it. That would be slander.
