  • I had my conspiracy theory ex brother in law explain that chem trails were things Biden added to jets to fight global warming.... My response was "shit, I wish that was true!"

Somehow that wasn't the answer he was expecting.

  • I bet this is just India making a statement to Pakistan. Turn off the water for a few days then turn it back on.

As people pointed out, if they keep it closed very long it will overflow so India doesn't want that. Also blowing up the dam is one hell of a stupid suggestion. Can you imagine how bad that would be to the people downstream? And you know who is down? Pakistan. That would be so dumb.

This is a political point, and they can't possibly be cutting off water for any real length of time.

  • This is more like a trade-war crime. If this is a war crime then the us has been committing an endless war crime by sucking sooooo much of the Colorado River before it goes into Mexico.

If this is a war crime then Ukraine committed one when they shut off water to Crimea.

(This is not a war crime)

  • Yes and no. That's a much harder thing to argue in reality. I'm an atheist so I'm pretty anti-religion, but the reality is that all parents want to teach their child at least some of their worldview. If that worldview includes religion, who are we to say "no, you can't teach that"? The child can always change their mind when they're older and in theory there's no harm. But a child can't decide to get their foreskin back. (I know there is a surgery to try to add some back, but it's just aesthetic, the nerves will never be recovered.)

  • Stop circumcising children. Let men decide if they want to be circumcised when they reach the age of consent at the age of 18. I guarantee circumcision will drop by 95% or more.

And if that's the case, that circumcision only exists if you don't give the boy the choice, then don't fucking force this on an infant!

  • No, no they didn't. I've been through a number Republican presidents... Well 3 others .. And not one of them was said to be a threat to democracy, not one of them was said to be a threat to the rule of law, and not one of them was it questioned whether they would leave office if they lost election.

It is a bullshit statement to say Trump is a standard Republican and what Democrats are saying is just hyperbole, and this is what they always say. The only way you can possibly think this is if you've only been exposed to Trump presidencies.

  • It's an indictment of propaganda. Biden's presidency was 1000x better that the shit-show we have now and if someone can't tell the difference then they have their head up their ass or are drinking conservative propaganda through a fire-hose.

  • 100%. This is the true "voter fraud" if there is any. Voting for parents, voting for significant others, voting for kids, but doing so on a mail in ballot and usually with their approval.

(I have to admit that I do this with my wife. She says "just fill it out and I'll sign and turn it in", so I do. But this could easily be done with coercion also.)

  • I hope this is satire. If it's real I feel sorry for the guy. To be sold a vision of what's cool and to spend a ton of money on it, and then to be made fun of is quite painful. I can understand that and have empathy for the guy, even if Musk is a piece of dog shit and I'm rooting for Tesla to crash and burn.

  • I'm kind of glad. I want the Supreme Court to realize sooner rather than later that Trump won't listen to them and that they're not his friend, just useful patsies.

I'm sorry for all the people that are caught up in Trump's bullshit. That guy is fucking evil.

  • They'll be allowed back in the White House, but they'll be put in the "special reporter zone" that is two rooms away from the press briefings with Fox News playing on max volume.

  • I'm kind of surprised that all the institutional investors haven't bailed already. It doesn't take much to look at the fundamentals of Tesla and realize it's all smoke and mirrors. The emperor has no clothes and the stock is 10 times more expensive than it should be.

  • I’m glad, but I’m still pretty damn irritated that we’re all seemingly “ok” with the fact that we just have “liberal” and “conservative” judges.

The thing I've realized as I've gotten older is that the difference between liberal and conservative in the US is almost more a question of how we think rather than what we think. When I was younger I thought it was simply that conservative people had one set of values and liberals another, but that's flat out wrong.

The way information is presented to a conservative in their media is much different from how information is presented to a liberal is their media. This leads to a difference in how people think (or maybe the difference was there to begin with and they self selected their media of choice). Try having a conversation with a person of the opposite political persuasion, it's really hard because you both try to convert the argument to your own structure. Both people end up arguing over the structure more than the issue because once the structure has been agreed upon, the topic almost answers itself.

Once you realize that "liberal" and "conservative" is the way someone thinks and not just if they root for team R or team D, it's much easier to come to terms that judges are "liberal" or "conservative" at a more intrinsic level.
