  • This is the first time I've heard of Hindu extremism in the UK. As far as religions go they tend to fly under the radar a bit.

  • Do you mean specifically r/UK? That sub has totally changed over the past few years. The same kind of articles keep getting posted and upvoted heavily.

  • Imagine paying a subscription to a subpar selection of music when you could just download mp3s.

Imagine having to go through the hassle of being at a computer and using whatever program you need to use to find the correct songs and then transfering them to your phone, when you could just find the song instantly, no matter where you are.

I used to download tens of thousands of songs back in the day, Spotify is way more convienient, a price I'm perfectly fine paying.

  • Can I run your patched version of docker on docker?

  • 2 of those 3 things are correct

  • Hopefully people are willing to donate to their instances to keep them financially healthy. It'll be a pretty big issue for growth if it starts to get popular but the larger instances can't afford to stay operational and disappear.

  • I've gone from sync to voyager too and yeah, that does bother me. Sync really does have the best UX, UI and performance but it's a shame it's basically been abandoned.

  • Ah 😂 I'll switch it around again. Starting to feel a bit like the hokey cokey...

  • Ah I could read it fine - I'll update with an archive link in a sec

  • I don't think it helps that politics absolutely dominates Lemmy, where Reddit has enough diverse subreddits that you could probably just avoid politics all together.

It's much harder to get away from it here. But hopefully, as Lemmy grows then we start to see more and more users in the non political communities and people can have a laugh without people jumping down their throats. People just need to stick to it and give it a good go and help build something great.

  • I think it's acceptable. I'm actually surprised it's this long to be honest. Personally I'm absolutely against the death penalty, I'm glad we don't have it here.

I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted for your question...

  • Anyone disagreeing with leftist ideals EVEN WHILE AGREEING IN SPIRIT is called a Nazi on here all the time. The word is losing all meaning.

I definitely agree with this. It's one of the first things I found jarring when I joined Lemmy, that the fascist label is thrown around way too much. Everything that someone doesn't like or agree with are fascists, or tankies. There seems to be very little nuance.

I've seen people call Lemmy.world, shitjustworks, blahaj and hexbear instances fascist.

If people keep throwing it around liberally where it doesn't make any sense then people will stop listening or eye roll when you try and point out when someone is being a literal nazi.

It's basically a boy who cried wolf situation.

  • Its infuriating to see the UK falling apart when every country except England voted against Brexit

Wales also voted in favour of Brexit.

but somehow their vote counts double or something.

Englands population is significantly higher than the rest combined, so it's hardly surprising. I think Yorkshire alone has more than double the population of Northern Ireland.

Agree with everything else you said though. Hopefully we get to see the day when we get to re-join again!

  • but that’s not the main reason people aren’t going out anymore. People are drinking less and less even at home, too, especially younger generations.

I think this is understated, I think our attitutes towards alcohol are changing. People aren't going out every night after work anymore or having a couple of pints on their lunch break. The younger generations are a lot more health consious.

  • You pay for what you get with the food.

I don't go into spoons much, but I remember the drinks being reasonably priced.

  • Yeah. I wonder why it's like that? If anything you'd think it would be the other way round.

  • I agree, but:

Pamela Hemphill, who pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 60 days in prison,

If her sentence was 10 years I wonder if she'd still be taking the moral stand.
