  • Failure to understand this leads to no end of argument from unproductive ideological or political positions. People want to take one cause in the loop or system and focus blame on that particular group or circumstance. Blame is so counterproductive for solving most of our problems, but our culture is just increasingly programmed for it.

  • Assuming the wiring is still in place but no longer hooked up to the phone network, there are things you could do with that:

I could be mistaken, but I think I remember (from back in the day when it was more common) their being ways to use phone wiring to network computers, or send a signal from an amp to speakers in room (I have some doubts about the latter, since speaker wire normally a lot heavier than phone wire).

Doorbell or intercom is another thing that you could use it to connect between rooms. You could even rig up old phones between rooms (without being on the phone network), though you'd need to supply power and maybe jury rig a button to ring them across the line.

If you had use for some other kind of wiring, the wires could possibly be handy for pulling the new wires through the wall.

  • The algorithm seems to have gotten progressively worse in terms of just continuing to show you the same stuff, especially recently. What it recommends me isn't worse, just more repetitive. A page refresh doesn't make much change.

  • Shot my finger with a BB gun. Didn't think I'd pumped it and put my finger over the barrel and pulled the trigger to get the BB out of the chamber. I remember the spurt of blood arcing through the air in slow motion. Gotta love that "oh i fucked up" shift to slow motion.

  • Out of honest curiosity, is "twisted a nerve" a real diagnosis and a meaningful one, or is it just a colorful way to say you fucked something up in your shoulder?

I've had something that my Dr and the physical therapists called a "pinched nerve" but I understand that basically means "we don't know but assume it's something to do with a nerve because we think we can rule out all the stuff we understand better".

  • I do get the thing of being stuck on the association of something with pleasure or such, despite knowing from repeated experience that it doesn't actually work out that way. All I can say is keep reminding yourself of this.

The other suggestion I have is to try to find some other special beverage with which you can cultivate a special association.

It may be tricky to find the right sweet spot. It can't be something too expensive, since it sounds like that will stop you buying it, but it can't be so trivial that you just drink it all the time and it then fails to function as a substitute special treat. Possibly the effort of making it could imbue it with specialness. Kombucha is possibly a thing like that you could make.
