  • Fuckface is going to lose his farm *to Monsanto... God this timeline is constantly trying to one up its shittiness.

Both fucking suck, but fuckface farm owner, while still tending to be pretty wealthy and have some political sway, is peanuts compared to the absolute monster that is Monsanto.

  • Reagan purposefully let an epidemic kill Americans because he didn't like gay people existing and was courting the religious right wing.

He knew it was killing American citizens, and withheld any kind of relief to the affected or funding into research the better understand it. But it was killing gay people more than straight people anyway, why stop it if it's going to rally the religious people, who cares if some other non-gay people get caught in the epidemic? Thats just the price for making america great again. and yes that was a Ronald Reagan slogan first.

  • The difference is negligible. The widespread opiate crisis in the US isn't because of street drugs and militant cartels and gangs. It's because of over prescribing of opiates by doctors overworked in understaffed hospitals, or because it's the only med insurance will cover. The end result is the same, both are corrupt private organizations that have taken power from their respective governments through flexing violence and money. And if you don't think major corporations can't be violent, just ask any number of whistleblowers who are 6 feet under.

  • Those programs, while imperfectly implemented, also showed that they really did improve the lives of the people who were able to gain the advantages of them. We need to look to what those programs did well and fix and rework what those programs did poorly.

  • In general it's asking another person to change their appearance to suit your preferences rather than just respecting whatever mood they're in or how their naturally resting face just looks, it's a dick move. Forcing a smile also sucks. It takes some amount of conscious effort to maintain a forced smile and smiling does engage quite a few muscles in the face, about 43 different muscles to make a smile.

Combine all of that with the history of women very much not having any kind of power in our society, and it takes on a more sinister tone when directed at women, hinting at the idea of someone's only valuable because they have a pretty face and it should be pretty all the time.

  • Sure, in a big 3d animation team, I'm basically a solo animator working with the tools I have immediately on hand. If I had a 5000 GPU Render Farm, then yeah, a Mac as a work station might work, but I'd still rather have a beefier customizable workstation than a Mac.

  • CPU isn't the only specs I'm looking for, supporting a beefy graphic card for 3d rendering is also a must, at least for me to quickly get renders done, and dollar for dollar, getting a customized computer running windows will take me much farther and faster than any Mac will.

Sure the CPU might be amazing but CPU isn't the only important part of a computer.

  • The problem is that the hardware is fairly underpowered to effectively use for any kind of demanding visuals.

Like if I were rendering out a big 3d scene, I'd want something with a fairly beefy GPU to crunch through the renders relatively quickly.

  • The "luxury" space. It's overpriced hardware with an honestly relatively pretty aesthetic and the OS has so many guardrails they're hard to really mess up, and when someone does mess it up, apple stores are ubiquitous enough that its a pretty quick trip to get it fixed. Perfect for people with a bit more money than sense who don't want to or have the time/ability to figure out how to properly use a more flexible OS that requires a bit more knowhow to use and not break.

  • People make this shole "cast iron cult" thing out to be a much bigger thing than it actually is. Cast iron is a durable material and has been used as a tool for cooking in the harshest of conditions for centuries, but to be able to use it in those harsh conditions it needs to be properly taken care of just like any tool.

The reason people seem so neurotic over taking care of cast iron is that cast iron cookware is an investment. Year after year a cast iron pan (and this applies to carbon steel pans too) becomes better and better the more the thin layers of oil polymerization into the seasoning. A fresh off the line Lodge dutch oven doesn't have the years of layer after layer after layer of polymerized oil on it as the same mode Lodge dutch oven my grandmother used when back she was half my age.

Cast iron is easy to take care of, there's nothing special about how to take care of it, but the ways to take care of it are specific because of the nature of the metal used. Hell I spend less time cleaning my cast iron pans and carbon steel wok than I do cleaning any other pan type.
