  • Our constitution does have the method to be fixed, 27 times we've fixed it. They're called amendments. Honestly I would hazard to say that no political document anywhere is going to stand up to bad faith actors trying to subvert it. At the end of the day the the constitution is just a piece of parchment with some ink on it and only has the power we give it.

Germany as a nation began in 1871 when it went from being the Holy Roman Empire a loose collection of Germany states, to the nation of Germany and ~50 years later would collapse into Nazi Germany. Fascists don't care about the law, they use the perception of law to gain power.

  • Supposed to be separation of powers, Judiciary is supposed to just look at evidence and make judgement calls, the executive is supposed to do the legwork to actually bring that evidence to the courts. If the Judiciary is the ones collecting evidence and making the judgement calls as to what will and won't support a particular position, that's a bad thing.

Unfortunately that separation of power breaks down when fascists controll most/all the levers of power.

  • Personal injury lawyers might not be as big as they are, but lawsuits in the US are kind of important for more than just monetary compensation, it's to have case law and in essence introduce new regulations. McDonalds didn't just have to pay medical bills for the Hot Coffee lawsuit, but McDonalds also had to change how they serve their coffee. Its part compensation and part making sure it doesn't happen again or if it does, there is a clear path for what needs to happen. As awful as it is to have something bad happen, it's worse if we don't learn and change from it and our system of incorporating case law is pretty decent at that, if imperfect. No legal system can cover every scenario, but if it can adapt as new scenarios arise then it is all the more resilient (although that does kinda assume our Judiciary is truly impartial and there are no cronies trained by think tanks to give the illusion of impartiality)

  • Jesus fucking... WEVE HAD SO MANY MOVIES, BOOKS, TV SHOWA AND GAMES EXPLAIN WHY THIS IS A BAD IDEA!!!

Edit (more stuff): but yeah the thing i immediately thought of was the Peacewalker Incident from Metal Gear Solid, but this time the AI isn't based on the mind of the greatest soldier of all time who laid her gun down for the future of mankind, instead it's the entire collective stupidity of humanity...

  • Sure shit sucks right now, doesn't mean it's not worth fighting to fix. If you're burnt out from being politically engaged for a decade, disconnect from it for a while, and actually disconnect from it until you get to a better head state, not just scream into the algorithm about how you think its all pointless. As cliche as it is, touch some grass, go outside, breathe some fresh air, find somewhere quiet and disconnect for a bit. Pick up a hobby that doesn't result in being terminally online, disc golf is pretty affordable and surpringly more common than you think.

  • Coulda fooled me, most people I know lashing out don't recognize they're lashing out and dont explicitly say they're not being rational.

Real catch-22 moment here, if you know your being irrational, you're not actually irrational.

  • Others have mentioned Presidents day, Columbus day, all the Christian adjacent holidays are based in Eurpoean tradition, so Christmas (which also has Santa, a white guy, canonically breaking into everyone's houses to leave presents) Halloween is the night before All Souls day, a moderately important Catholic day in the lead-up to All Saints Day, and Easter, thanksgiving is about the white settlers not starving because of the generosity of the native populations.

  • and ignoring Trump literally threatening to make it worse

Holy fucking shit you're literally proving my point. You're so focused on Joe Biden's passive participation you're ignoring Trump actively making it worse. Do you agree that Trump is making the genocide worse?

  • If you're going to quote me, use all of what I said. You left out the "by the end of the campaigning." part.

At the end of the day, I voted for Harris and voted against an accelerated genocide because the final choice after months of atrocious debates and rushed campaigning and people rightfully calling out Netanyahu's campaign against Gaza and the Palestinians a genocide, no matter who was funding Israel. But people wanted to talk about Genocide Joe like he was masterminding the entire genocide and ignoring Trump literally threatening to make it worse by telling Netanyahu he can have all the money and weapons he wants to finish it quickly.

  • In a better world there would be a "no genocide" option, unfortunately we didn't have any of those options once the election rosters were finalized so we ended up with a slow rolled mildly economically sanctioned genocide under biden or an accelerated genocide under trump or a non-serious third party in a country where the last third party to win an election was 170 years ago.

Congrats the accelerated genocide won out over the status quo. I did what I could with what is available to me, I voted against the worse option with an actual chance to win.

  • I don't care who was dissuading people from voting, there are bad actors across the board out there who absolutely are dissuading people from voting focusing on biden's status quo genocide policy and burying trumps genocide acceleration under the noise.

Congratulations I hope you're happy with even more genocide that what would otherwise be happening.

  • What the fuck are you on about? I'm talking about voter suppression and progressive masquerading astroturf dissuading people from voting, not talking about how people should vote. Pay the fuck attention to the conversation in the thread.

The end result of progressives being dissuaded from voting because "Genocide Joe is not stopping Israel's genocide" and other voter suppression tactics has resulted "make the genocide even worse Don" getting into office.

  • I didn't fall for it, I voted blue straight down my ballot on election day, but all these bots, trolls and astroturfers convinced a lot of other people to stay home on election day.

So yes here is an example of those "progressives" dissuading people from voting "in the room with us." Doesn't matter if they're bots and trolls, they masqueraded as vaguely progressive and convinced people to stay home on election day. If they were legitimately progressive or astroturf, the end result is the same, the party of accelerated genocide ended up with the presidency, the house, senate and Judiciary.

Oh just a hint but the "are the XYZs in the room with us" line is supposed to be about sarcastically pointing out something doesnt exist and isn't easily proven to actually exist.
