  • Nope, not what I said at all. I recognize that Biden is begrudgingly honoring the treaties we have with Israel as is expected by the supremacy clause of the Constitution (the constitution, federal laws and any treaties signed by the presidency are the Supreme law of the land) and I'm pointing out that Trump will enthusiastically send weapons regardless of any treaties.

Besides Joe isn't even running for president any more, this whole Genocide Joe talking point doesn't even matter at this point.

  • If I'm generally our and about, phone, wallet, keys, phone charging cable, a pen, anything else I need can be acquired as I need it.

It's also functionally ECD is my backpack, mainly because I use it to carry my laptop with me wherever I'm likely to need it, like work, or class, or to carry a bunch of stuff like MtG decks for an MtG event, or clothes if I'm spending a night at a friend's house.

I live in the US and its very car centric here. It's rare that I'm ever more than a few minutes away from a source of water or food, I keep an umbrella in my car, it has AC to keep me cool, if it's chilly out I wear a jacket.

  • This is a pretty reasonable take on the death penalty, one I actually pretty closely align with, even with as much as I don't like it. It needs to be the absolute last resort for only the most heinous and indefensible of crimes.

  • For me, even just making the switch from Reddit to Lemmy has done quite a lot for mental health and really helped reshape my social media diet into something much better.

On Lemmy I encounter a lot fewer true assholes on the platform (theres still snark and sarcasm and inside jokes, but I liked that aspect of reddit), it's a lot slower of stream of content, the posts take longer to change so I don't get stuck in an infinite scroll of perpetually new content, and I've rebalanced where I'm spending my time online, more informational and wholesome side of youtube and a discord community that I found that I really like.

But yeah even taking a break from these every so often is still a good idea.

  • Yes.

Lemmy has gotten quite a bit bigger since the Reddit API fiasco about a year ago, a lot of people who left reddit for lemmy tended fairly progressive/left leaning, seeing the writing on the wall and how enshitification was going to get so much worse as reddit was preparing for its IPO. These are the kinds of people that various special interest groups want to discourage voting. I mean most of the subreddits I was a part of devolved into awful botspam as mlre and more people left, and reddit really only exists for weirdo right wingers, and even the porn subreddits really degraded in quality or were just shuttered for being unmoderated.

Even though this lemmy instance is a global site with users from all over the world, users from the US still likely makes up a signification population here, and by extension, makes this instance a big target for election propaganda trying to dissuade the generally progressive potential voters here from voting by reminding us how bad genocide Joe is for slow rolling weapons to Israel or how he's forgotten about Ukraine because its not still in the headlines or some other propaganda.

  • While more progressive people have recognized the pointlessness of gendering military service and playing football, conservatives haven't and its something we can use to our advantage. Like the entire calling them weird thing. It's literally the kind of insult a 5 year old would come up with but they're absolutely blowing gaskets over it and it's hilarious.

Know your enemy and you'll have the advantage.

  • I think the Aramaic spoken at the time would have been pronounced closer to Yeshua or Yeshu.

The sentiment still stands dude was pretty chill, except that one time he fliped the tables of the money changers and hucksters turning a house of worship into a house of commerce. Still pretty based of him.

  • The best definition we have for terrorism is the threat or use of illegal violence to influence the people beyond the immediate area of the attack to achieve a political, religious, ideological or monetary goal.

It's not necessarily making a moral judgement about terrorism, just how it works. Al Qaeda is a terrorist organization because they used violence and threatened more with the goal of influencing US foreign policy on the basis of Fundamentalist Islamic theology. The IRA were also terrorists for their use and threats of violence with the political goal of unifying Ireland as one nation and taking it back from the British monarchy. Even the Founding Father's of the US could be considered terrorists by this definition. They destroyed property and killed British citizens in our bid for independence affecting the decisions of the monarchy and parliament an entire ocean away.

  • My guy, he crossed state lines with a firearm that wasn't his, to go to a protest where the only people injured and killed were by his trigger finger because he put himself that situation. That's not defending yourself. He's functionally a home invader crying over the dead body of the homeowner he killed because the homeowner brandished a skateboard.

  • Amy Schumer, while she does have bad comedy, is constantly the target of reactionaries and chuds who think all women aren't funny and point to her as justificatiom for their shitty worldview. The entire thing has been beaten to death for over a decade. Making fun of her, and by extension women comedians, was barely worthy of breathing slightly faster through the nose almost a decade ago, now making fun of Schumer is even more stale than her comedy.
