Yeah, and the person who ordered the thing from China is getting their shipping cost subsidized by the American taxpayer, while someone who orders something domestically has to pay for 100% of their own shipping. It literally is a subsidy for China

The UN Postal Union sets guidelines for international mail that dictates developing countries shouldn't have to pay full price to send mail to developed countries. Basically if it costs $30 to ship something from a developing country, they would charge $20 and the destination country would pay for the shortfall (dollar values not real). China was a much smaller economy when this agreement was drafted.

The US renegotiated this agreement with the United postal union in 2019/2020 but there were still come compromises made - while the amount of subsidization is minimal compared to 10 years ago, USPS still allegedly eats some losses on every package from China.

Basically Trump is mad because the deal he personally negotiated 5 years ago wasn't good enough. Same thing that happened with his trade agreement with Canada

Just because it's a service doesn't make the comment you are replying to any less correct. Cancelling inbound chinese shipments is negatively affecting quality of service, NOT revenue

Voila is a delivery service, not sure why they decided to pick that out of literally everywhere in the country

Water mains are buried deep enough that they don't freeze. Tap water is noticeably colder.

Is it bad for the roads and bridges?

Yes. The cold isn't, but freeze/thaw cycles are. Most asphalt roads needs to be resurfaced every 15 years or so

Do the homeless freeze to death?

Yes, but most cities have heated shelters around here where people can come when it gets too cold to sleep outdoors

I was trying to say the cost savings of packing lunches is not absolute, and is dependent on the opportunity cost a person places on time spent at home cooking.

But I see now that you are just incapable of the critical thought necessary to deduce meaning beyond the concrete text placed in front of your eyes

I'm trying to point out that the premise is flawed because you are assuming there is no opportunity cost associated with time spent meal prepping at home. If I make $50/hr at work and wish I had more free time at home, then it's a wash, and I'm just as well off getting subway every day

You are missing the point, it's not "4.5 hours a week of work" vs "absolutely nothing", it's 4.5 hours of work vs however long to have to work to pay for the ingredients, plus the time to make the food. If I spend an hour meal prepping and it takes me an hour and a half to pay for the ingredients, eating out at lunch only costs me 2 additional hours of my time, not 4.5

I also don't know what meal you are preparing where chopping veggies, searing meat, packaging and cleaning up afterwards only takes 20 minutes. Even making chili, which is the prototypical "throw everything in a pot" recipe takes me north of an hour when all is said and done

And meal prepping is 2 hours of your week every week, plus however long you have to work to pay for the ingredients, which is probably another 2 hours

Some people like the taste and don't mind paying for the convenience - full stop.

Also the vegetarian option at most fast food places is generally more expensive and worse tasting

Like once a month we have a fake site pop up using the name of our business with 1-2 characters changed. They use a web crawler to scrape all the content off our domain and they re-host all of our products on a woocommerce site where they steal our customers credit card information.

These all use cloudflare to conceal the hosting providers, who are entirely non-responsive without a police report or WIPO ruling. When all is said and done, the content is being hosted in China, Russia, or South Africa, meaning the only way to remove the content is from the registrar's, because they are the only link in the chain that actually has to comply

If you order an iced tea in Canada you are getting Nestea/Brisk like 95% of the time. Both are sweet teas, but are marketed and labelled as "Iced Tea", not "Sweet Tea" - ask our American beverage overlords Coke/Pepsi why

If you are in a cafe, or some other place where the expectation is that they brew their own, then yes, it's generally unsweetened - but it's also usually explicitly labelled as such on the menu so you know whether you are getting brewed tea vs a glass of corn syrup

I've definitely ordered one when I was down south, poured 2/3rds out, and topped it up with water, and it was still comparable to nestea
