Just like when mastodon.social condemned Meta for their horrible moderation decisions and inability to act properly in the interest of its users, and said that the instance would be cutting ties/not federating with Threads, they kept on federating like nothing happened.
I don't believe anything coming out of mastodon.social unless I can see action being taken with my own two eyes.
Also, blocking scrapers is very easy, and it has nothing to do with a robots.txt (which they ignore).
Despite the fact that this article explains the same thing like 5 times in a row as if I'm an idiot ... uh, damn, Meta. Let me make sure I don't have your apps on my phone.
There's something that needs to be done, and that something is drastic, and a lot of people don't want to hear, or see it. But we can't keep going forward as a country where more than half of people are violent sociopaths, or enablers of the latter.

I actually just launched a PHPBB forum for specific interests in regards to the indie web, building websites, and sharing random banter (among a few other things). I find Reddit and Lemmy to be useful for seeing what's going on in the world overall, and Discord has mostly just been annoying ever since its launch, and forums seem like a good answer to recreating actual communities. And if there are more people who feel this way, maybe they'll make a comeback (because they definitely haven't just started to be affected by corporations attempting to centralize everyone to one thing).
The masses will either eventually migrate to ActivityPub, or have their entire digital lives consumed by oligarchs. It's just a fight between finally deciding that maybe ease-of-use doesn't mean "good," and losing every ounce of your identity and ability to express your thoughts and feelings.
What in the heck happened lol we go from a generation of people building PCs, using DOS, hacking around in Windows and debloating operating systems, to people who can't function unless their phone tells them what to do
The illiterate flocking to Lemmy to profess that they don't know how to make em dashes, therefore it's AI
