  • I don't think I've had a pacman update take longer than 10 minutes before. Sounds like OP was updating all their AUR packages too.

Still absolutely a terrible thing to do on 10% battery life. I bet there's an AUR package for "check battery level before update" out there somewhere though.

OPs meme is "use distro whose model is 'give users enough rope to hang themselves' " and complaining he's at the gallows

  • I think it's against electrical code. You can have a pull string because the wires are on the ceiling which carries the same risk of getting water in it as the light itself that is also on the ceiling. A wall switch would be lower on the wall and has the risk of wet handed people coming directly in contact with it

Sometimes you'll see those "shavers only" sockets in bathrooms, which are different from your typical wall outlets in that they have a GCFI (also called RCD), and/or a built in fuse to limit current, and have a floating ground.

The light switch and light is likely tied to a "live loop" system which runs 230V, and has a 5 or 6 amp non-GCFI breaker on it. That is considerably more dangerous for a wet human to come in contact with.

  • I just turned 40. For my birthday I went to go see a small disco funk band. They run their own merch table, tour around the country in a van, have day jobs, etc. I wanted to support them so I was gonna buy a T-shirt, but it was $25, I only had $20 on me, and they didn't take card. So I got a $15 CD. They also didn't have any change, so I had to wait 5 minutes for them to go to the bar and get them to break a 20.

Then I got home and realized I didn't even have a CD player. So I dug out an old DVD drive and installed in my desktop, ripped the CD to FLAC, pulled the drive out, and threw the CD into my old box of CDs I haven't opened in 10+ years...

  • Got a source for that?

There's still some unsettled rough edges to the differences and overlap between the 12th and 22nd amendments, but they both seem to be pretty sensibly in agreement that if Joe Biden is eligible for 4 more years as President, he would be at least eligible for 4 years as Vice President.

Where it gets speculative is if Biden had already served 8 years, would he be eligible for VP? Or as a real world example: could Kamala pick Obama as her VP? There's nothing explicitly preventing it.

  • Haha cute.

When XIV came out in the first couple weeks people were trying hard to get their relic weapons and you had to clear Garuda, ifrit, and titan hard mode. We had an 8 man raid group, and most of us had taken work off for a week or more. We LAN partied in one of our living rooms and when the odd one of us wasn't online we'd just super drunk and run party finder one man down to drag some lucky random person through their relic check marks. One time I forgot to equip my job shard on Ifrit and not until the healers called for Mage's ballad did we figure it out. Still made the kill, all the while this random person in our group was like "what on the absolute fuck is wrong with you people?! That was incredible!" We still joke that was world first Ifrit Hard mode Archer kill.

That was a really fun game with it came out. Lots of friends made being way more relaxed than WoW heroic guilds at the time.

For the record, FFIV and FFIX are the best :)
