  • Tbf - they do this because of a rule that is actually very important. Basically news media can't say that a person did a crime until they're convicted of that crime - otherwise it's libel (or slander, I can never remember which is which)

That's important because otherwise the media can basically just have unilateral control over the court of public opinion. People already rarely read past headlines, imagine if news headlines could just declare someone guilty with impunity.

It always seems silly in these cases - and in similar cases where the defendant has basically already admitted to doing it - but it's actually an important rule in my eyes

  • There's absolutely nothing wrong with being short. Lying about your height and wearing ridiculously high lifts, while continuing to lie about it in the face of evidence however is a pretty powerful statement of character on his part. And not a flattering one

  • Especially impactful when you consider that Death basically never passes judgement on individuals in the series. For him to try and dissuade Brutha from helping Vorbis shows a level of disdain he usually only reserves for people who are cruel to cats

  • So, this may be part of the answer, but I've had similar experiences to you, except for one startup where just about everyone was like that. Place was basically a frat house - its office was right on the water (which was awesome) and they literally had a bunch of binoculars for oggling women paddleboarding and shit (which was not awesome)

It might be that most of us don't experience this behavior because it's condensed into companies that encourage this behavior? I'm no sociologist, but that seems to jive with what I know about echo chambers and whatnot

  • I 100% agree and think DeSantis is in the wrong here - but I think it's worth pointing out that if we hadn't spent the last century having government entities heavily propping up giant companies so they can get an edge over all their competitors, then this sort of retaliation wouldn't really be possible.

I'd be totally fine with Disney losing all it's special priveledges, about time actually - but not because they happened to piss off one whiney politician

  • Generally speaking whether I like a character or not has very little to do with whether I think they're moral. One of my favorite characters in any book is a horrendously evil man - like approaching Hitler levels, though on a smaller scale - but goddamn is he a fascinating character to read (Vorbis from Small Gods - which if you haven't read it is a masterpiece)

  • What exactly do people complain about Windows doing that Linux also does? Trying to be neutral here, but I can't think of a single issue that is a common windows complaint that is also an issue on Linux. I can think of plenty of issues for both OS's (and MacOS too fwiw), but the venn diagram of windows issues and Linux issues is just two non overlapping circles as far as I can tell lol

  • on this site at least - you're absolutely right, and the fact that you're getting bombed with downvotes is pretty solid anecdotal evidence of that if nothing else lol

Don't get me wrong, I get just as annoyed by those who insist Apple can do no wrong as those who insist they can do no right. I just find it weird how pseudo-religious people can get about Apple. It seems like you're not allowed to just view them as another tech company. You have to either crusade against them, or else you're a paid apple shill

  • They 100% did

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty to gripe about with apple, just like every tech company, but I swear half the complaints I hear about Apple products on lemmy are either outdated or just plain wrong

For some reason the anti-Apple circle jerk is supercharged on Lemmy. I'll never understand why people get themselves so worked up over a brand they never have to do business with

  • So, what? We're just straight up making shit up about Mac now when trashing it on Lemmy?

Its literally been over a decade since the last time Apple charged for an OS update

  • The vast majority of us use these wonderous devices to get into arguments with people we are extremely unlikely to ever meet in person

And also about things that we generally either don't really care much about, or can't actually do anything about lol

  • The only game I've ever 100%d was Spiderman, and mainly because

    A) they make it dead simple to do so, with an in-game checklist

    B) it's just a damn fun game so that it didn't actually feel like a chore

  • Also, it wouldn't really look nice - a typical stainless steel dishwasher looks clean - a microwave and oven (hopefully) look clean and tidy through the window. But a windowed dishwasher? Half full of dirty dishes for most of the day, and even when the dishes are clean they won't look neater than a plain stainless steel finish (or whatever finish you prefer)
