  • Lol totally! I started with subtle wrinkles around here eyes and gradually tuned it up to unattractive, old, ugly, sad, which is what you see in the pic I posted 🤣

  • yea, specifically I envy the ability to form an original idea and then using your skills to create something exactly how you want it to be. Must be nice. Using those AIs is just unsatisfying, it's never your thing, never your style and never your idea, never your vision, never your art – even if it might look kinda cool sometimes.

I tried really hard to "create" an older Version of Daria (from the MTV cartoon, so not even an original idea cuz I cannot form those) standing in front of a billboard in a slightly dystopian environment. Despite numerous attempts of prompting, the best I got was this hyper-attractive girl in a green jacket.

  • Yea voting is great, but when was the last time the UK had a prime minister that anyone voted for?

  • Oh wow, the great UK really seems to love to show the world how advanced they are. Decrypt this then 🙄

  • ah sweet, thanks

  • Radio signals huh? Isn't this as if ants would research human pee in the hopes of learning how we conduct genome sequencing or operate nano Robots?

  • I appreciate your comment and agree with you on all the points, except with

    greening the economy is going to be expensive;

standards of living have to drop if you want to live at all.

I think that those thoughts should even more be hammered into the brains of all citizens.

The problem is the wrong focus. We always hear about “energy crisis” but seldomly about a "producing too much shit that is designed to fall apart after a few months crisis", also barely any talks about the forever ongoing "producing too many one-time use items with materials that take a million years to decompose crisis".

So the focus should not be on the question if greening the economy will be expensive (because it will be), but on expensive for who - the billionaires or the working class?

To illustrate: I need to buy a new fruit mixer every 2 years. If it were illegal to produce fruit mixers which are designed to break in such a short time, my standards of living would not drop; they would increase.

And a remark regarding the commentary by Urs P. Gasche; dont take it too literal, he might even agree with you, who knows. It's kinda how the Swiss tend to complain; mixing passive-aggressive sarcastic hyperbole and cover it in friendliness and overall agreement. Infosperber is one of the few (german-language) sites that dares to critically question stuff surrounding the conflict with Russia, Ukraine, and NATO. They are not pro-Russia, but they regularly demonstrate serious efforts to understand and explain what's actually going on, and provide different perspectives. Link to the articles.

  • Ho Chi Minh!

While in power, he lived in a small house, didn't own many things, always lived super modestly and was generally never interested in his personal benefit. He devoted his whole existence to the Vietnamese people, which he freed from french colonialism and US imperialism.

He always remained uncomfortable with the growing personality cult, with large monuments and honorings. He also declined many gifts, like one time a fancy piano, as he thought it's crazy to transport it over the given distance (but I forgot the whole story or mixing something up now).

He also specifically wished to be cremated, and his ash to be scattered across the country (which didnt happen, everyone can stare at his embalmed body in a huge mausoleum). Today he is worshipped almost like a god, and I really kinda (almost) get it.

I think Ho Chi Minh was probably one of the greatest humans ever. But of course not perfect, not immune to failure and mistakes. Here is a photograph of him crying while apologizing to the people for his mistakes.

  • What errors?

  • It's the super very best of the best. Beside encryption it also uploads stuff faster than shit like folder sync pro. Never has any errors. One of my most favorite open source apps, love it so much I even paid for the supporter certificate. (And I don't pay for lots of free stuff cuz I'm poor). If they would allow single folder sync on android it would also be much better than nextcloud.

  • Doesn't happen in my experience, and even if, sponsorblock can also skip the 'pls subscribe' and other annoying parts.

Best scenario would be to implement it into newpipe, which should be possible somehow. But not if nebula chooses to stick to it's own app, which I find very bad overall.

  • Sorry I don't understand the question.

I just meant that there is this site nebula, which I believe does what you described for videos.

Then I described my experience as a subscriber of nebula.

  • Yea think so. A society that always talks about the issues of the right, is a society where the right always wins.

  • I think https://nebula.tv/ does that? Good idea and should be done more. But from my perspective as a user it just feels like bad and limited YouTube app without sponsorblock.

  • Exactly, has nothing to do with liberalism. The soviet union under stalin literally felt threatened by a black square.

  • Anyone got a good news site regarding news from and about China?

I don't doubt the correctness of this author; that fucking song is probably going to destroy the CCP by the end of this week!

    However ...

Tong Ying-kit, who had the slogan emblazoned on a flag affixed to his motorcycle as he rode toward a phalanx of police officers during a mass demonstration.

    omits what the nyt wrote

drove a motorcycle into police officers

    which omits what cgtn wrote

caused serious injuries to three police officers.

Not interested in discussing this case specifically or if China is superevil or superbased, but if you have a good news site, let me know.

  • Thanks for all the great answers and the super interesting discussion! I learned a lot and even get the excitement, although a lot of it seems extremely far away from today's possibilities. Mainly the whole mining of Helium3, transporting it back and then actually using it. So I wouldn't be surprised if an even more efficient energy technology was discovered and applied before the first mining activities on the moon begin.

Also, the moon as a possible source of disputes scares me way more than the possibility of using it as a permanent colony or launching point into the great nothingness excites me. And I don't mean that because WW3 seems kinda possible right now, but also because even friendly nations still have disputes over tiny islands. I just don't think we are ready for it.

  • Women live longer everywhere, but what's crazy is the huge difference in the countries.

I clicked through some and the smallest gap was less than two years (already forgot which one, clicked too fast), but in Vietnam the gap is 9.3 years. How come?
