  • Until the courts say otherwise, the president’s order is presumed lawful, and the subordinate officers are compelled to obey it.

This is a roundabout way of making the point I was trying to make.

Newsome said it was unlawful. If it is, then he should be doing more than make social media posts about it.

  • The one follows the other.

The president can not order the military to do peacekeeping operations on US soil without a justification to do so. If the justification to do so is illegal, then so is the act of ordering it.

  • "I have formally requested the Trump Administration rescind their unlawful deployment of troops in Los Angeles county and return them to my command," Newsom wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

If it's unlawful, you don't need to ask. Just tell them to go home.

  • Relax everyone; it's just a singular event. Just like how every right-wing white man who perpetuates an act of terrorism is a "lone wolf" and definitely not the logical culmination of the fearmongering propaganda espoused by the Republicans.

  • I am, yeah. I have to drive past it every day so I saw it during construction and at no point was any equipment installed inside it. It's tall enough to be seen from the interstate but not tall enough to be a cellular tower. Also there's no equipment vault nearby either.

  • It's not really about the money.

There's no amount of money that will make Jones stop. He to this day still shit talks the families and victims of Sandy Hook. That's why they want him bankrupted and InfoWars shut down- not to have his money, but because as long as he has a public platform, he'll never stop.

  • They're both egomaniacal, drug-addicted narcissists. There's no possible way they could work together long-term.

Trump can't stand Musk getting any credit and Musk can't stand Trump giving him any blame.

So no, I think this was completely inevitable.

  • Harvard isn't a person.

According to Citizens United it doesn't matter. Part of that ruling held that both individuals and associations of individuals have a free-speech rights. Or to put it another way, you as a person have a right to free speech, and the right doesn't go away just because you choose to associate with other persons.

So Harvard has a right to free speech, because the individuals who make up "Harvard" have that right.

  • Near where I live a church put up one of those 50 foot tall aluminum-siding crosses.

    1. There are still hungry and homeless people, but that's how you choose to spend your money?
    2. If you have to put up a giant symbol to show you're a church, you're probably not a very good church. After all, as some guy who I'm totally blanking on his name once said, you will know a tree by the fruits it bears.
  • It would be an extremely lame duck presidency.

It already is. Haven't you seen him sign those executive orders and it's immediately apparent he's never seen or read it before that moment? He doesn't have any clue what he's going to sign before they put the paper in front of him.

Trump is in the White House for two reasons- make himself richer and avoid prosecution for his crimes. Everything else that's happening is being masterminded by someone else. Smart money is on Stephen Miller.

  • If there is an opening in the VP spot, the President nominates a new VP. But that VP still has to be confirmed by both houses of Congress before he can be sworn in.

The only way Johnson becomes president is if a) Trump dies, Vance nominates him, and Congress confirms it, or b) both Trump and Vance kick the bucket at the same time which automatically puts Johnson in the White House.
