  • if reddit has a specific use for you that you're unable to find anywhere else, you should utilize reddit and not feel bad about it.

maybe one day, lemmy will be a proper alternative for people in your position, but there's no use trying to stay away from reddit if you're unable to do your job effectively without it. good luck.

  • i would say no, as there can be programming you can begin that doesn't involve math. what I would recommend is to begin your own project by looking to see what you can automate in your life.

when I was in middle school, I told a teacher I wanted to program when I got older, and she scared me because she said that involves a lot of math. at the time, I hated math, so I avoided programming completely. it wasn't until I was 24 that I gave it a shot and was so upset at how misinformed I was. I wish I could turn back time, but oh well.

is there something you do at your current job that you think can be automated?

  • I wanted to just upvote this and move on, but I feel like that would be a disservice to you because I feel the same way about commenting.

I would say to just ignore the negative comments and continue to post. good people should not tear each other down like you describe. you never truly know who is replying to you, it could be a kid or someone that has some issues that need to be addressed.

I understand its much easier said than done, but training yourself to have thicker skin is like a muscle, just gotta keep going out there and train it lol. good luck!

  • this is exactly how I started. I looked at my job to see what I can do to solve an issue we were having using python and, even though my final script was a complete mess, it worked. learned SO much along the way
