  • I read the book once a decade ago and again last week. It's supposed to be jarring and to drop you into an alien seeming world. But it does all come together in the end.

If you're having trouble imagining the world, I recommend playing Cyberpunk 2077. It's fuuuuull of references to the Sprawl Trilogy and honestly some things are close enough to almost be copyright violations

  • The military promised to give me a job related to my degree, proceeded to then not do that, then denied me a higher degree both in my assigned job field and in my educational background because I lacked the background for the former and the job didn't require the latter. And now I'm struggling to get back into my original background

  • I had a top secret clearance in my old job. The whole process usually takes less than 9 months and anything outside a year usually means there's something fishy with your background. It boggles my mind that members of Congress aren't required to have security clearances and waiving background checks is completely insane. They're clearly hiding a lot of nefarious and dodgy crap that would otherwise disqualify them from office

  • This is an incredibly important statement. You've perfectly summarized exactly how non-Harris voters felt. The opinions you share in here may or may not be true and the Lemmy population certainly doesn't like hearing it, but this was the thought process that brought trump to office.

Frankly, the way to save America is to attack corporations. Regulate, regulate, regulate, put money back in the hands of the voters. Whoever does this has the vote.

  • This is exactly the issue. A smaller studio has to distinguish itself with quality work. Disney is a media empire and pretty much a monopoly. They don't need to distinguish themselves from shit. They own dozens, maybe hundreds of networks, services, and production studios across the world and all they need to do is produce the most basic watchable content on enough of a scale to keep viewers subscribed. The high quality shows and movies they produce are the exception, not the rule.

It's time to break up every media empire.
