  • I've put kubuntu on a couple of machines now and I'm pretty happy with it.

  • The fact that these two drugs are so common means we need to know the levels found. Otherwise people will panic and not take their meds.

  • My money is on: the supply line is compromised.

  • But baggies?! If it's found in such a simple product with no obvious reason to need slick waterproofing...then yeah it's in everything

  • I have re-read The Lord of the Rings and all of Larry Niven's books (many in the Ringworld universe).

  • I read this and think: must be cheaper than setting up their own cameras at every corner

  • But this is probably not related to espionage. As noted in the CNN article, it's very common to have cell connections embedded in industrial hardware these days.

The wsj article addressed that and said there's a protocol for approving devices. These were found in devices that were not approved and where the users didn't know there was connectivity.

Sometimes these kinds of stories are knee-jerk "China bad" stories. And sometimes they are much worse than reported, but downplayed to avoid embarrassment and panic. Hard to know which.

  • I have this problem too. Kubuntu 22.04. The PC will sleep and then randomly I'll see that it's awake again. One theory I have is that KDE connect events on my phone are waking it?

  • I think it's naive to believe either the Israelis or Hamas haven't engaged in sexual violence given its prevalence in warzones

The story wasn't that there was sexual violence, but that it was systematic. The point being that it was ordered and encouraged from above.

  • Charge $1 month per account, $2 for access to NSFW subs.

  • OMG the case is so important and so we give it to these two people?!

  • "Hey we're conducting a study to see if this stuff is fatal or alters your hormones, who wants to be first?"

  • Okay then what is a suitable animal to test on?

But pesticides and herbicides are also breeding less robust crops. E.g. corn doesn't need something to discourage bugs or competitive plants, so it slowly loses that ability. And maybe it slowly loses some of nutrients we want on the way.

Besides which, isn't the point that we humans learn to fit into the ecosystem?

  • Not just mice, they also tested in pigs - with various degrees of effect. The alarming thing is how pervasive it is in humans.

  • Doesn't an arrest warrant need to be signed off by someone who looks for actual police work? "The store said it's this guy" would seem to fall short.
