  • Is this the part where I say "this man will never see substantive consequences" or are we still pretending he might?

  • I'll buy this until those findings are released. If he's not out after that, I'm going with "We have 30 Democrats who are as morally bankrupt as the Republicans in Congress."

  • OK the relevant classes are many years behind me (and I don't work in a science field), but since photons are going to transfer some energy to any particle they interact with, how is this not effectively the same as evaporation with heat? This sounds like a tiny bit of radiant heat to me.

I would guess it's not or we wouldn't be discussing the article, but I'm not seeing the difference.

  • I had no idea! Cool trivia!

  • Maybe I've just been lucky. I did what some post suggested a couple weeks ago with regard to updating ublock filters and a couple other changes when this first ramped up, even though I'd not seen the popup about running an ad blocker yet.

Folks said that was a temp fix, and I should expect to have to mess with it again.

So far I've still not seen one of these youtube warnings about ads, not a single one.

We do have a pihole on the network, but for other reasons most of my systems are not pointed to it.

  • Give me one more reason to abandon my gmail account.

  • Fair enough - it's a personal pet peeve of mine that the backtracking rarely gets mentioned (as backtracking) in coverage of the event.

Target didn't do much better, IMO.

  • And in trying to save the transphobe dollar, they pissed off everyone else.

How does no article seem to get this? I was geared up to buy cases of bud light for my 4th of July bash, explicitly because of the conservative reaction to that event. I don't even like Bud Light generally, though I'll admit a cold Bud Light Lime in the summertime can be refreshing. Then Anheuser-Busch fired the people responsible and backtracked.

    Nope.

Now you have lost the business of the bigots and the allies, Anheuser-Busch, well fucking played. You deserve this "hardship" (which we all know is a blip at most) for having no fucking spine and caving to bigots.

  • I'd guess the number of packages that potentially smell like weed is pretty insane these days.

So the USPS, who took 3 weeks to send my priority mail package (containing no weed) about 350 miles, is going to flag all those packages (or even a worthwhile fraction of them), set them aside, get a warrant for each of them, open them, and then what?

First, they'll be wrong some of the time because it's jackasses sending delta8 hemp or whatnot.

Meanwhile they've added another complication to their already clearly shit scheduling and routing process, and they've done all this to enforce drug laws, which is not even a component of their purpose as an organization?

Don't ask don't tell makes much more sense, and I'm willing to bet that except in egregious cases where someone tries to send a pallet of weed or something, that's what every shipping company does, except the occasional try-hard who pulls the alarm on something that smells funny the first time, then gets told to stop wasting everyone's time.

We're on the cusp of becoming post-prohibition with weed nationally. There is literally no upside to USPS or any shipping organization proactively looking for random weed shipments in packages.

  • Based on the username I'm wondering if we're seeing an argument a couple is having play out here. Account is like 30 min old.

  • So your solution is apparently "do nothing, and make fun of anything proposed by anyone else" is that a reasonable summary?

  • Well OK but,

    • He backs up his claim with linked citations
    • He doesn't ignore, but rather acknowledges many of the other things that are bad about the guy, and backs those up with linked citations too.

And, he ties it all together at the end:

There are still many in the punditry who are confused about why Christian conservatives like Johnson glommed onto Trump, a thrice-married chronic adulterer who touches the Bible like it will burn him. But, of course, it was never really about Jesus. What Trump and the men who worship him share is anger that any woman would have the right to say no: To a date, to a marriage, to having your baby. It's why Trump has a long history of sexual assault. And it's why men like Johnson embrace a "religion" that is hyper-focused on caging women like they're farm animals. And why they resent gay people for their perceived sexual adventures.

So I don't know if it's the "best" the author could come up with so much as what he chose to write about, but it seems like a reasonably coherent piece to me.

In any case though, your comment at least gave a concrete thing you disliked, so fair point! 🙂 The comment I replied to on the other hand...

I'm not a particular Salon fanboy, but we're in a sub about politics so I expect to see some opinion pieces about politics.

  • So much for attacking their ideas when you can just attack them for being them, I guess.

Did you have some particular disagreement with the content of the article?

  • Regardless of any legal outcome, I wish every one of these fuckers, plus the judge who signed the warrant, has nightmares about what they did that night every time they close their eyes for as long as they live.

I know they'd have to give a shit in order to have nightmares about it, but a man can dream.
