  • STOP trying to get ahead of their whining idiocy.

That's a funny way to say "stop worrying about giving fuel to the next wannabe that will rise up in Trump's stead"

This problem didn't end when Biden won in 2020, and it won't end when Trump loses in 2024.

If a by the books court proceeding can disqualify him from the ballot in (checks notes) "the democratic states", then by the books court proceedings should get him off the ballot in at least some red states too.

It would be very myopic to support an outcome where only the blue stats take him off the ballot. It would be taken by the maga crowd (and sympathizers) of "proof" of what he was saying all along.

  • Heh, I don't think top comments in this thread are panning out the way OP expected.

  • I actually don't like this possibility. If something transpires where ALL states disqualify him from the ballot, fine. But if only blue states do, that's just going to feed a resurgence of "the election was stolen from him" and I don't see that going well either.

It's better than a Trump win in the short term, but for the next 50 years we'll have to hear about how the blue states "stole" an election from Republicans, and they'll use it to justify bullshit of one sort or another.

  • while Democrats must be constantly persuaded to vote for candidates who they perceive as being less than perfect

I want to argue with you, but can't.

  • A surviving child was led down the corridor, her clothes caked in dust, an expression of shock on her face.

    But does she condemn Hamas?

  • I've tried various versions of replying more or less like this, and haven't found a way that doesn't seem to sound snarky to folks.

  • As of about a year ago he still wouldn't say "No" regarding whether Trump would get his vote if nominated, when directly asked.

He also helped put Trump in power.

    So, yeah.

I don't think whataboutism is required to argue with someone having a hard time disliking Christie, unless you define whataboutism in some interesting and unusual way.

At best he's realized they need to try stuffing the monster back in the box, after he helped bust it open.

  • Been awhile since I listened to a Bill Maher podcast, but I'm 99% sure it was only about a year ago he still refused to say "No" when Maher asked him repeatedly if he'd vote for Trump if Trump got the nomination.

Unless he's done a very solid about face since then, he'll put the monster right back in there if Trump runs.

  • But hey, maybe Ukraine will get the F16s they needed a year ago if they wanted to have any chance of avoiding a stalemate.

R has been resisting Ukraine aid. They aren't getting shit if Trump gets in.

  • I have been slowly dipping my toes in Brother Ali the past few months, and recently listened to this for the first time. His voice is awesome but some of the words may be a little hard to catch. It's worth looking up the lyrics.

His voice is like caramel in my ears (in the most complimentary way), but it's his lyrics that get me in this and a few others.

  • Look at Morgan Wallen for example…

Would have been so easy just to not say it, unless it was in his heart.

  • NO!

  • There's not another word with as lengthy a history rooted in dehumanization of the other, so the unique status shouldn't be surprising.

  • Ah, the block list is going to go up a lot as I read this thread, I'm guessing.

If you aren't black, and you think you have a reason (or are trying to find one) where it's OK to say the N word in a non-academic context (and maybe even then), or you think you have a valid opinion on whether black folks should use it, or you think that black folks using it somehow justifies your use of it, you're either willfully ignorant of the depths to which that word has been used to dehumanize, and thus is indeed worthy of unique treatment, or you're a bigot, and likely both.

Edit: Not as many folks falling over themselves to find the corner case where it should be OK for them as I expected. gg fediverse, you aren't quite as shitty as rt yet.

  • I agree with you and teachers have been long underpaid, but also I think this is symptomatic of the middle-class squeeze that has been in play for a long time. The wealth consolidation, out of control costs for higher education, and inflation is strangling the middle class and the poor, IMO starting to strangle the economy, and stories like this are the blood squeezing out around the fingers as the grip continues to tighten.

  • Well kbin doesn't federate downvotes, but having a peek at the Lemmy side was pretty satisfying. What a fucking disingenuous tantrum throughout this thread and repeated failure to acknowledge that this source you have impunged is rated quite highly by independent fact checkers.

Will you continue to delete and edit your comments, or stand by your words? I dunno, you're getting blocked now, which I recommend everyone else also do.

  • Fair, however:

A man operating a silver 2002 Toyota Camry approached the restricted area twice, though never accessed the plant, officials said.

So this sounds like he was inside the perimeter but potentially not within the boundaries of a higher security interior zone, to me. It may not mean that at all, but if it does it might explain (see my comment above) that they weren't authorized to use force under the circumstances.

Again, I recognize this is just speculation on my part, just explaining my thought process.
