Its so weirdly addictive, started with proxmox, then to home assistant, now I have frigate handling PoE cameras, every bedroom has a morning alarm light automation, the vacuum starts itself, its ridiculous
Thats actually a brilliant idea, a little Macgyver, but certainly what I'm needing, thank you!
Not that its necessary but I would assume I would need per user automations and templates to be able to append a name and add that to a main message todo, a little over what I have time for
Hey don't mean to hijack, I know tailscale isnt necessarily a tunnel (correct me if I'm wrong) but does it provide the typical issues with apps like android auto not working while connected to a VPN?
Hey I just went through google hell, make sure you are the Nest owner account, the project ID from the cloud page and the project ID from the nest page are whats needed on the last step, and at this part for me it still errored out after the redirect but did integrate nest.
You also as far as I am aware need external access with HTTPS set up, Porkbun was a breeze and I got myself a 10$/y .dev domain, and for that you will need to be able to open ports on your router. Honestly everything networking was easy compared to getting Google to play nice.
Also also its easiest if your browser session only has one Google account logged into it, good luck!
Issue is assigning static IPs to devices like nest cameras and the dubiously branded vacuum cleaner, NAT alone should be enough to restrict connection even if the adapter its on is configured as lan then? Im a little in over my head as far as routing goes, wanting to self host some web server and I want to take as many precautions as necessary (maybe even overkill)
I like that idea, though most the fans are paired to lights here, very practical however!
In the two or so weeks I've had my HA live I'm almost certain its received more use from my family and I than nest has in a couple years. Frigate was very easy to get running and with some PoE cameras, no more missed events. Any pointers for doorbells and thermostats would be much appreciated
I hate this feeling, first time was trying to reason with a project manager of 15 years: we need to improve the machine repeatability and have hardware to match if we don't want to lose a customer. He instead starts trashing our competitors build quality as if that fixes our problems.. does this feeling go away?
This is exactly what I would hope to show up in conversation, to me it really doesnt matter if you think your privacy may be violated, there are more than enough examples of it actually being violated to warrant taking precautionary and reductive measures in our digital footprints
For me what is most ironic is I probably would've never went out of my way to start downloading some emulators and ROMs until hearing about all these kerfuffles
Very informative insight, I've worked at a place or two where project management seems just so very disconnected to what is happening, going as far to argue about how competitions product quality doesn't matter when we were in a meeting about a customer threatening to return their device.. not suprised to find those mindsets have weaseled their way (or even made) big tech what it is today
I never needed Bing to open up in a side panel, I'm not sure why I would want that now
They bought OpenAI and all, why aren't they using the most cutting edge from them? Or is it just severely lobotomized with some preprompt to the point I still would rather open up chatGPT
I have to credit to the novelty of the technology, there's certainly a reason I'm wanting to self host models, my concern really is with what data is being used, and how these models are being trusted.
My goal is to contribute the least useable data to the likes of OpenAI "in the puruit of AGI" because it will inevitably become as did MS Tay did, especially if something can change on their end and suddenly have it spitting out garbage for users who may be potentially at risk of bad advice or actually paranoid.
That also doesn't mean I havent and wont use chatGPT, it certainly has been a useful tool, knowing its limitations, but OpenAI has their head in the clouds and it only leads to greed in pursuit of an end goal. /Imho
Certainly, here is a list of potential reviewers
