  • One technical reason is that it’s more traceable than cash.

  • we need the blockchainsaw

  • If the CPUs get strong enough, they could run old raytracing games at some point … especially on hardware platforms that don’t have ray tracing GPUs available for them.

  • Since it says “Englisch Test” in the title … the kid used the German genitive -s instead of the English genitive -'s

  • cm3 (with markdown ^3^)

cm³ (with unicode ³, which a bunch of keyboard layouts have on AltGr+3)

    ㎤ (one unicode character)

  • I got that from wikipedia and it says they changed it in the 80s.

  • True. It probably feels that way because it moved into the toolbar, which was always customizable. If I remember correctly, they always argued that you can use the old menus if you want to use keyboard. But it feels a bit unfinished, the burger menu can’t be removed from the toolbar, has no shortcut and does not have all options the old menus have (offline mode, open file, new container tabs, find again).

And I’m also annoyed by sync since it appeared in that menu. Running your own server for that was always tricky or not possible and it’s not possible to build something similar with addons since they can’t even access bookmark tags.

  • I suppose they didn’t want to bind it yet again to a unit and go with a name they could use in many countries. 113g burger would’ve probably worked. But increasing it to 125g or 1/8 kg would probably been better.

In Germany McD at first literally translated its quarter pounder as Viertelpfunder, but then switched to Hamburger Royal. They might have realized that that was actually 125g and not the intended 113g. Pound isn’t a context-free or precise unit.

  • I’m always fascinated by people who view % as a unit. 1/4, 0.25, .25, 25% … all the same number

Though I get it when people get confused by non-decimal stuff … like 0.25h being 15min

  • Tbh, firefox’s hamburger menu is still pretty dumb. To my knowledge it has no shortcut, it is not configurable and can’t be removed from the toolbar. Right at the top it has with bold text sync, whether you use it or not. It has this stupid animation when it shifts to submenus. Another button that can’t be removed is the extensions button.

But well … chromium doesn’t even allow to customize the toolbar in the first place.

  • Knigge is the name of a German royal family, the manners are just named after one of them.

  • DP also has the DRMs HDCP 2.2 and DisplayPort content protection 1.0

And MPEG LA claims they have patents that are needed to implement the DP standard.

  • On a first sight it looks legit. I can’t find a website, but there is a "Prochem Pharmacy Avondale" facebook page. Since january 2022 it advertises products sold there, give aways and such. It could be that it does that longer and facebook just doesn’t show me all as a visitor without an account, not sure. The profile picture literally says "Free Palestine - End the occupation".

It is indeed possible that that’s a big false flag effort, but so far I have no reason to belief that.

  • Was a great time, the American and/or French revolution also started nationalism. We had a lot of "fun" with that concept.

At least the French revolution also brought us the metric system and the decimal clock.

  • Developers need to get comparatively exensive apple machines to develop software for apple’s operating systems. That’s what I meant. In many cases you need to pay premium for ports to iOS or Mac because of that.

  • Still can’t compete with English word order strictness.

  • And lots of stuff is more expensive due to the higher development costs.

  • What will you do when you get old?
