  • If they did that, I wouldn't be able to find a fix for the fuel line getting kinked in my BG86 leaf blower. You know that video with 48 views that exactly solves the problem I am having? Same applies across basically every niche device or mechanical issue and is one of the primary reasons I find myself on youtube.

  • Ensure its released globally at the same time

This was easily the biggest driver. For GOT, I had legal access but I was expected to wait over a month, by which time because the internet - the spoilers would have been completely unavoidable.

  • is there anything they can really do to make their services work?

Once upon a time we had netflix. Almost everything you could want to watch was on there because they were just about the only show in town. During that time there was precious little reason to download most shows.

Now in order to have access to the thing you want to watch, you're expected to pay for 5 or 6 separate streaming services, by which point you end up at the same insane price point as paying for the full package of cable/PayTV channels.

They had a good thing and they ruined it with greed, just like everything else under capitalism. Glorious state streaming network should be only show in town, comrade.

The admins have a moral compass that aligns with my own, and I'm pretty sure they have an actual compass as well. So far they have been open about all issues and addressed them quickly, often before their instance was affected.

They took community input before preemptively defederating from threads and all of the booty and plunder is shared equally among the crew. The artwork is sick and often features Lemmy from Motorhead in various shades of cyberpunk or steampunk pirate getup and it really feels like home.

As a matter of fact I might donate some money to the cause, these guys rock.

  • You say that like it's the easiest thing in the world. We had a great bed for the last ten years but it is done.

Bought a super expensive extra firm mattress... immediate back pain. Stuck it out for a month, no good. Couldn't return it coz we chose wrong...now I have a stupidly expensive guest bed.

Tried one of the mattress in a box companies who claimed to be one of the firmest available. it was a soggy mess.

Returned. Bought another with a less favourable return policy but half the price...my wife hated it so much that I donated it to the local op shop.

Were on our latest mattress now and my back is absolutely killing me.

It's just impossible to know what will work for you. A quick lay down in the shop isn't going to cut it, but I am sick to death of looking. A real shame the company that made our original super firm mattress went out of business.

  • Dude, they get a new phone every year. You need the old box to sell last year's model on ebay.

  • Oh, you mean a small shitty oven that dries everything out and got really popular for some reason?

  • Only time I've ever had this happen, I had inadvertently over tightened my CPU cooler. Scythne ninja 2 was a godsend for small form factor builds, but damn it was easy to over tighten!

  • I run this combo at home. My daughter was 5 years old by the time we moved back to our home state and she got to spend a few nights at her grandparents house for the first time.

My dad put a disney movie on for her and set her up with some popcorn and a blanket and shit whilst we sat outside having a beer. About 5 minutes later she came running out to tell us that something was wrong with the TV, and that it was broken.

You know what was wrong with it? People were suddenly screaming at her at twice the volume of the original program. She'd never seen an advertisement before.

I was quite proud of myself, but her reaction said it all for me. I'm 40 next year, and this shit has just gotten more ridiculous over time. Seems like boomers are the only people left on the planet that are prepared to be screamed at in their own homes. It aint for me, and clearly not for my daughter either.

There's be some growing pains over the next few years for sure, but as per the original video up top here I think it's for the best. Being a "content creator" shouldn't be a job. Leave it to the hobbyists. Consume less, create more.

  • Just bought one, and one of those side-opening suckers from amazon. Cheers!

  • The productivity metrics at my company were consistently up by around 150% month by month for the entire duration that we were all permanently working from home without the distraction of the office and the time sink of in person meetings where nothing is achieved.

The only reason we were forced back to a hybrid arrangement is that none of the middle managers had any work to do and it became painfully obvious how little they actually contribute. They don't actually generate any value.

Instead of restructuring, and distributing the heinous waste of money that they and our real estate holdings represent they made the decision to limit WFH arrangements to two days per week and our metrics went right back where they were previously.

  • What's wrong with a little aggression if you're making a solid point and straightening a few people out?

  • The Galaxy Xcover 6 pro is a box full of lies in terms of IP68 rating and associated warranty. I have written about my utterly disappointing experience of getting caught in a storm a couple of months after I bought it quite extensively elsewhere. Save to say I will not be buying another samsung product. It seems they have forgotten how they used to make that design work.

Great phone, just not waterproof at all.

  • Set "Burn Subtitles" to AUTO and grab the Open Subtitles plugin and make sure you are logged in. Beware opensubtitles.com and opensubtitles.org are different logins.

I'd say about 95% of what I'm playing is playing without transcoding to my LG CX Oled with Jellyfin app on it.

I don't know enough about the triggers for transcoding to know why I'm getting this result, but my server has an obscene GPU in it. I'm not sure if this is a factor.

  • I used Plex for years.

As soon as I tried Jellyfin with a limited section of my library I was immediately finished with Plex.

    1. Jellyfin works with no internet connection with no stuffing around
    2. The app is far quicker and more responsive and IMO it looks world's better
    3. It handles mixed media libraries better
    4. A vastly larger selection of my library can be played with zero transcoding in Jellyfin. Less load on my server, less load on my client, less load on my drives and a far, far more responsive UI as a result.

You owe it to yourself to try jellyfin. It's amazing.

  • I can't believe 3D Printing hasn't been mentioned. Summoning figures from the ether would almost certainly get you tried as a witch.

  • Everyone is suddenly so anti corporate, BECAUSE big corporations had a big part in what the internet is today.

  • Hell yeah, dude/ dudette. Comment saved.
