I keep a single domain for distnct emails. It's not anonymous in the sense that anyone with half a brain could put 2+2 together and figure out who I am. It's highly useful for three reasons: If I suddenly get junk mail on a specific email, I tell my server to deposit them in in the bit bucket. Next, the algorithms aren't necessarily smart so having a different email for every login a) makes it harder to profile me, and b) it's more secure. Hackers will waste a server month trying to open my lemmy email in all the money stores.

I use my own cloud server for everything except mail. For mail, I will probably move to Tuta. Their apps have issues, but they are open source.

If you mean the rise of serfdom and slavery under an oligarchy instead of an economically enlightened republic, I'd say it already happened.

Labels really suck. I don't believe that hippies could possibly be so heterogeneous. Mostly, they were united in the 1960s in their anti-war position. Their older brothers/relatives died in Korea. And their friends and schoolmates were dying in Vietnam. And for what? Someone else's war? But I don't think they had too much else in common. Well, maybe drugs, LOL.

Conservatives is a crappy label too. My view is that the Republican party has become that party that wants an authoritarian oligarchy. Now they can check that off their list.

I say Republicans, instead of Conservatives, because the latter word has a much more time invariant definition. Republican position on the other hand has changed considerably since Republican Abe Lincoln's time.

Don't underestimate people, @clubby. I WAS a hippie of the 60s. I got tear gassed in Washington at the protest Jane Fonda attended. I've also been programming since I was 14 years old. Do the math and see if you can figure out the language, newbie.

And NO, this was not the America we envisioned! This was also not the America that Samuel Adams, Thomas Jefferson, John Paine, Ben Franklin, and all the others envisioned. It's not complicated. When it becomes more profitable for politicians to help the oligarchs than it does for them to help the working class, things will improve. So pick a politician helping the oligarchs and make it very "unprofitable" for them.

It's only for four months. Putin doesn't mind how many Russians will die until Trump gets in and tells Ukraine to surrender his buddy.

It's not the Justice or IRS or even FBI/CIA I worry about. Trump said somewhere that he'd have no problem using the US Military against Americans. He probably already has a plan to replace all the generals who might have a conscience or be loyal to the consititution (and not him).
