  • Yes, my friend was one of them. I was shocked when 2 weeks before election he told me he was planning on not voting.

I asked why and he cited holding the same position Isreal as Biden, and courting republicans like Cheney, saying that was not a good look for the party at all.

I told him it’s not ideal, but we need to vote to keep Trump out…. Sometimes we just have to be pragmatic.

He responded saying it’s the Dem establishment that keeps allowing a boogey man like Trump to rise so they can shove center right corporatists down our throats. He said he was abstaining from voting to send a message to the DNC, and followed it up with, “we survived a first Trump term, I’m sure we can survive a second.”

  • Walls require a lot more effort. Experts and architects to design the thing, land which is both expensive and sometimes tricky to acquire, and materials and hard physical labor which is also costly.

Rounding up illegals just requires some willing thugs, some weapons, vehicles, and maybe a dumpy place to drop them while you wait for them to be cleared across the border. I’m willing to bet there’s plenty out there who would do this for free, and even happily provide their own equipment.

  • Which means you have to be willing to do whatever they ask of you.

At which point it becomes more than just telling them what they want to hear, but doing what they want you to do. Which in the end isn’t any different than actually believing that crap and truly being loyal.

  • I dunno much about German politics, are they somehow in a broken / divided government or something?

Sounds like they’re saying the threat of a Trump controlled US would be a call to action to bring the government together and restore its function.

  • I know the mini has been around forever, but I just don’t understand the use case for this product in today’s world.

The air is similarly capable, only a few hundred more, and not tied to a power cord/ monitor/ desk. As someone who owns a lot of Apple devices, and usually doesn’t need much of an excuse to buy more, this one still eludes me

  • Even in California, we got automatic voter registration passed the legislature, only for the governor to veto it.

Just wild that something so fundamental to a functioning democracy is so divisive.

  • I went Capresso Infinity Plus > Baratza Encore > Timemore Sculptor 078s. I also have a Commandante C40. I also pretty much exclusively do Pour Overs and Aeropress with Light Roast beans (I’ve found my favorite roaster to be Black and White. Any beans I get from them I find quite enjoyable, even their less expensive stuff).

The Caspresso was just OK. The Brataza could produce a decent cup, but the Commandante and the Timemore are just on another level.

I got the Timemore as part of their Kickstarter and during the 8 month wait from payment till delivery I found myself just not even using the Encore cuz the C40 was that much better… even though it took extra time and effort to hand grind the beans.

That said, if you’re not getting really good beans, and not being precise with your brew ratios and methods, the difference between all 4 of these might not be noticeable.

  • Lived in a 1Br condo with one for 5 years. Didn’t have any major beef with mine.

Only issue was they didn’t allow anyone to install air conditioners in their units when I first moved in. Then they said they’d be allowing mini-splits soon, after which it took them 2 years to get that approved. Unfortunately they had designated locations where the condenser had to go, which for the unit I was in, was right next to the front door and kitchen window. I was all ready to purchase one until that detail came out…

Ended up toughing it out for the next year until I could afford to move out into a bigger house without an HOA. Now I’m happy to have full control over anything that goes on or through my roof, attic, and exterior walls.
