  • Commercial rent is absolutely a huge reason. However, you're missing something. It's an easy way to get rid of a certain percentage of folks. A lot of MBAs, and by extension a lot of the C-Suite, act like employees are perfectly spherical and operate in a vacuum. So if they need to shrink their workforce by X% it doesn't matter which employees leave.

Unfortunately for the employers the high performers are generally (not always) the ones with more options.

  • Minus Arch, that was almost my exact experience with Linux back in 06. I started with Ubuntu. I let myself get pushed further into more and more customizable and faster distros and further until I was trying to figure out Gentoo. Then I put it down and took up drinking.

  • I played a lot of Elden Ring with a steam deck plugged into a cheap TV. I wouldn't want to play anything competitively on one, and I wouldn't want to play FPS on it like that, but overall it wasn't bad.

Get the lowest model with a microSD card and go to town for a few hundred bucks. If it's ever not enough it's pretty simple to break one open and replace the drive with a 1TB drive. I have dozens of games installed across microSD cards and shaders filled my drive. Took me about 20 minutes to replace it. Would take someone with no knowledge probably an hour.

  • In addition to your point, there are certain places (I'm looking at you, Houston) where a whole lot of people just have paper tags. They're all faked. So where are we sending those tickets?

There are also a load of unregistered motorcycles with plates from three owners ago. It's not their fault that no one bothered to register after that.

TXTag tried sending me bills for someone who bought my car after I traded it in. I proved it was no longer mine. They dropped those charges. Then it started over the next time whoever owns the car drove on their tollway. Went on for two years.

  • I did that when I had an awesome landlord. I just sent pics about what I was fixing and gave her a price. Then I got my rent reduced by that much.

But that was the only rental property she owned. It was extra money for her, not her primary income. And I paid several hundred less than anyone else in the area according to Zillow.

  • You can be a nerd and promote a movie. Vin Diesel is a big ol' DND nerd. Rosario Dawson is some sort of Star Trek superfan. Henry Cavill is way too into fantasy, and Warhammer in particular. Rashida Jones is a gamer. Colbert is a Tolkien nerd.

And you're still here. Aren't you a big ol' Potterhead?

Disclaimer since text doesn't always come across the way you mean it: None of that is meant to be offensive. I'm a computer nerd for a living and a fantasy nerd. I love nerds. They're my people.

  • I will talk shit about a lot of printers, but I've had a Brother workhorse laser for years. It's black and white. You tell it to print and it spits out pages. I don't know if they still make them that way but they used to be amazing at the very least.
