  • One of us!

  • Not just proficient users, but old users. 3rd party apps were all Reddit had, at first (besides the site itself, of course). The official app was the newcomer to the apps scene.

  • Fun fact, though: Linux is the only case-sensitive one.

Edit: I feel silly for forgetting that it's all about the choice of FS. If anyone needs anything from me, I'll be in the corner, coloring.

  • Rest of world dismayed by Trump's return to office.

  • I totally smirched him in the parking lot.

  • I think you meant to write "anything", but I have to laugh anf think this could be another internet moment like what started "Karen" or "Chad" or "Stan".

  • Changing his mind isn't the goal. He constantly already does that for the highest bidder. The people who have to enforce this stuff and the courts that have to rule on it are the ones who need to be well aware of its nonsense, and the bigger of a mess that causes, the better.

  • It seems obvious to me now.

Many US states are now requiring age verification for adult sites. VPN companies will benefit if that requirement expands. The Republican party's pearl-clutching politics are what can make that happen.

  • The thing is it's not a "hey, need an abortion? just do this." Look at what it's saying: if you drink the bitter water and God judges you guilty, it will cause an abortion, and that's how we'll know whether you're guilty or not.

Religious POV: No human has any choice in the matter. Drink the water, God decides. Zero choice.

Non-religious POV: I see a few possible explanations.

One is the person administering the "bitter water" might actually have some concoction that worked, but if it did work, that would signal to the community that the would-be mother was guilty under their harsh law. Not good for her, not really a choice.

Another possibility is that it's a ritual designed to let people move past perceived adultery. Drinking the magic water shows your faith and innocence because you would have believed you were poisoning your baby if you knew you were guilty. In reality, maybe not, but that's what the ritual presents on the surface. You drink the magic water, everyone feels better that God either didn't judge you guilty or forgave you, everyone goes on with life. Everyone's happy except if the mother was so desperate she would rather have been punished by the law than have that baby. Still no real choice.

  • I'd say "technically" because there's no such thing as magical water and because this is only a ceremony to give an appearance of leaving it up to divinity, not a way for people to actually have an abortion. This doesn't look to me like it helps pro-choice arguments at all since anyone arguing the other side is going to be able to say, "See, it's in God's hands."

  • What are we when we get too old to drink coffee anymore?

  • And I can only imagine how they feel when empty.

  • We just watched "The Trap" last night. There was a major pop concert that ended in time for family dinner time during daylight. In the concert, they were depicted having time to make multiple trips to the merch tables and concessions, and in one of those trips, they talked like it was an intermission to change the stage set between songs.

  • I was just listening to some interview talking about how, while it was Dems' efforts that pushed the pandemic stimulus checks through Congress, it was Trump's signature on the check, and that was believed to have had a big impression on demographics no one would ever expect to go with the party of billionaires.

Edit: I should add that I only expect the votes coming from more diverse sources than what might be intuitive, not that all of those voters would be persuaded to go all-out "proud boys".

  • Fair point! I don't know what I'll do whenever I eventually have to replace mine. I was lucky (I guess) to get the last model that had a removable drive and the keyboard I ended up loving. I upgraded my storage to 2 gigs and felt that covered everything I cared to change on this one.

But I'll have to seriously reconsider on future models, as I am enticed by the newer Apple chips but have certainly heard the uproar about the relatively small amount of ram offered. And now that we're on the subject, I'm not thrilled about the idea of Apple dropping OS support (i.e., security updates) for older models. I want to upgrade when I'm ready for an overhaul in performance, not just because they want to sell more.

I guess I need to be more specific about "nerd." I find it great for software nerdiness, but I have to admit the only physical use case nowadays is plebian: "just take my money and make it work."
