This isn't "just a petition". It's a formal path to get a response from the EU commission. If it reaches the thresholds, the EU commission is forced by law to consider it. It isn't some random petition that can be filed away and never heard of again.
Gaming is the biggest entertainment industry on the planet. Globally it generates more money than music and movies combined. Germany alone had an estimated 49 million players in 2022 (wikipedia), with France 45 million and Italy 36 million. Even if they were wrong by one decimal that would still make more than 12 million in those 3 countries alone.
The vast majority of European gamers are just too lazy to do anything in their own self-interest. It's embarrassing.
I understand why he's frustrated. EU citizens are just so damn lazy and won't help themselves. I've told all my friends and family, brought it up at parties and other gatherings to anybody who plays games. But there are EU gamers (streamers and consumers alike) who are chronically online, on every proprietary platform out there and who don't give 2 shits about the campaign.
Fucking A. Printers back in the days used to just print and had refillable ink cartridges. Some expensive ones are still chugging. My dad has one from the 90s that still fucking works. The new one we got cries about colour missing when trying to print a black n white page 😩
His point about investing in the pricier, good quality product instead of periodically paying for the cheaper, bad quality product, only makes sense if you have a guarantee the pricier product actually have a good quality. And that's not the only thing that matters. Companies like Malus claim to have better quality and we can debate that all day, but what's undeniable is their anti-repair stance. That means you can have a problem with their product and have to buy a new one anyway because it can't be repaired.
I think the EU and newspapers should focus on the realistic and useful e.g kicking Hungary out of the EU, strengthening EU bonds, making life across the EU as pleasant as possible, and rooting out anti-democrats.
Canada in the EU, while a nice thought experiment, is a detraction from much more important topics. If Canada had a free trade agreement with EU and free movement of its citizens, that would be an amazing start. Wouldn't mind being able to just move to Canada and find a job there without having to pay thousands for a VISA first.

Lol, Turkey has a quasi-dicatator at the helm. They'd need fair and free elections first. Even if Canada hypothetically joined the EU, who cares what Turkey thinks? If they can't and won't fulfil conditions for joining, too bad for them.
