  • Why do you think DeSantis and Abbott have spent so much effort making their states red hellholes? They're trying to drive out anyone with current liberal leanings, attract more Republicans to their states, and repel potential Democrats from moving in, all in a very determined effort to buy more time for those critical electoral college votes.

  • Israel would "move people out of Rafah, the main humanitarian hub in the enclave, to al-Mawasi

Yeah, that's not their plan. There's 1.42 million people in Rafah right now, which is 25 square miles. That gives it a population density of 56,800 per square mile, making it the 25th most densely populated city in the world - and with intact infrastructure enough for only a tiny fraction of that number.

So, Israel supposedly wants to move all these people to al-Mawasi. Now, al-Mawasi is barren, with; the last official count I could find said there were about 1500 people living there in a small Bedouin town. It's also only about six square miles total.

Let's say that Hamas is 10% of the population - I don't think it is, but let's use that number. That means there's 1,278,000 innocent civilians they want to move to al-Mawasi. That would mean a population density of 213,000 per square mile. That would be twice the population density of Manila. And there is no infrastructure. They're just taking a million people and throwing them into a barren desert next to the sea and saying, "Not our problem." There's no food, no water, no toilets, no shelter, no medical facilities, no electricity, no shelter from the heat - and no way to quickly make any of these things appear in enough quantity to matter.

The Palestinians are already on the verge of famine. This will make things worse, and disease is absolutely going to decimate the population. And then they'll decide that al-Mawasi is hiding Hamas, and they'll go after that as well.

    Fuck Israel.

  • The issue is that AM radio is far more reliable in an emergency:

in a true emergency, seven former FEMA administrators wrote in a letter to Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, the signals that power AM radio are more reliable than FM, phone service, and internet connection. Most of the 75-odd stations with backup communications equipment and generators that allow them to broadcast in a crisis are AM stations, and AM radio covers 100 miles or more, far more territory than FM or any other widely accessible alternative. • We're at solar maximum this year, so the solar flares are much more active (should be a good year for auroras).

OP, if you haven't already, please consider submitting your photos to the SunSketcher project, which is partnered with NASA in helping to define the shape of the sun.

  • Israel currently has enough weapons stockpiled that they could continue the genocide for several months before they'd need to consider changing tactics. I don't see what use sending them additional weapons/munitions does - just stick it in a warehouse until they need it next winter? It's just a visible show of support right now.

Cut off that support. Let Israel swing in the wind without unconditional support and maybe they'll finally start pulling back from all-out extermination. Make sure any future shipments are bound with enforceable limits on their use, like the US has on almost every other arms shipment it makes. And take whatever we were going to send to Israel for the next six months, and send it to Ukraine, which actually is fighting a war for it's very survival against a much larger adversary.

  • “What does she bring?” Jennings said of Noem. “The possibility of weirdo drama. That’s it. She appeals to no constituency Trump doesn’t already have.”

I love the oblivious self-burn in that comment, that trump brings in enough 'weirdo drama' himself.

Noem’s advisers confessed they were taken aback that [Cricket's murder] garnered such intense backlash. “I didn’t think that was going to be the headline,” a person close to Noem who had read the book told POLITICO.

What the hell else is in that book?!

  • Per Trump, “great legal experts,” including Sean Hannity and Mark Levin, believed there was no case.

Today I was absolutely shocked to learn that Sean Hannity and Mark Levin are great legal experts.

And [the hush money jury] is in about a 95 percent Democrat area,

Pro tip: if you don't want to be tried by a jury from a mostly-Democratic area, don't commit crimes in New York City.

  • Let's be fair (though I hate to be). The first hearing, at which trump was warned that he was definitely violating the gag order and could go to jail for continued violations, was earlier this week. These particular four infractions occurred last week, so he'll likely just get another fine.

I'm kinda curious whether he'll actually pay his fines.

  • Good. Fuck that guy.

    Edit:

In his plea to Roland to reactivate his law license while he fights disbarment, Eastman said he needed to be able to represent Reps. Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene in a political speech fight and pay his own legal bills.

Three of the most deserving-to-be-screwed-over people - very nice! Also, I wasn't aware that, in addition to the Georgia RICO case

He also was indicted last month in Arizona in connection with efforts to overturn the 2020 election, along with more than a dozen other Trump allies, including Mark Meadows and Rudy Giuliani.
