The problem is its centralized nature. As a business, it's going to do what businesses do and get people hooked, then slowly enshittify their products/services until a competitor takes over.
Yeah, I have a strong feeling a lot of terrible decisions like these are made by rich kids who paid their way through school and whose family connections got them a job they shouldn't be doing.

Businesses tend to support passing around money with other businesses. It's in all of their best interests that people aren't even exposed to free alternatives.
