  • I think Vic Fontaine is one of the weirdest things in Star Trek, and that's saying something. I couldn't believe he had such a big part in DS9. I enjoyed some of it and I always crack jokes about him so it was definitely entertaining but just so very weird.

I think I get what he was supposed to be, it's kind of like when they send comedians and singers onto military bases to boost morale of the troops. It was just such a weird choice to have that style of music. It felt totally out of place to me, and I'm sure it was seriously uncool at the time it was on TV.

Imagine being 15 or something and trying to persuade one of your friends that DS9 is amazing and really cool (which it was and is), so they come round to watch an episode with you and it's Vic Fontaine.

  • It's just what you're used to. To me fedora seems weird and I don't know why people choose it over opensuse. To me opensuse feels like home.

Also yast is great and I don't get why more distros don't have a similar thing.

  • When I was about 9 my family went to the jorvik viking center in York. They had a ride thingy where you could be driven around a realistic viking settlement and whatever the fuck they used to make the realistic smells of smelly vikings and pig shit really fucked me up. No one else was that bothered but I couldn't eat properly for days.

I'm guessing whatever chemical they used really didn't sit well with me. It must have had a pretty extreme effect because that was 31 years ago and it was the first thing that popped in my mind when I saw this question.

  • A very TOS episode that I thoroughly enjoyed!

Can we let La'an have a few happy moments in this season? That woman must be riddled with PTSD by now.

It was great to finally get Pike back! Has he ever told his girlfriend that he's almost certainly going to be disabled? What a pickle he's in. I think if I were in his shoes I would have let the relationship end. The guilt must be driving him insane.

I feel like they might be messing around with the timelines so that they can save Pike from his horrendous fate and just say it's an alternate timeline compared to TOS. Normally I'd be against that, but it's Pike and I love him so much that I almost want them to do it.

  • I like it, it's an Ubuntu lts with a nice theme (I wish it had grey instead of just black and white though), wine integration to run compatible windows software and it's always just worked for me.

I don't like the fact that some things are locked out unless you pay for the pro version but I think that's just layouts and stuff.

I'd say it's good but like all of these Ubuntu derivatives you're almost always better off just using Ubuntu. Even people changing from windows to Linux, I'd still just tell them to use Ubuntu.

  • Kirk was superb, I don't think I could have accepted the car scene if it was anyone else. It's Kirk, of course he's going to drive like a nutter. I was genuinely shocked when he got shot. I thought there couldn't possibly be a way for him to make it but they still got me.

La'an has grown on me so much, she was the one I was most dubious about in the early episodes of season one. I felt really sorry for her at the end, losing Kirk and being unable to talk to anyone about what she's experienced. She's gone through some pretty serious trauma already due to her genes and name and now she's had to go through this pure insanity. I wonder what the significance of the watch is.

  • Don't get me wrong, I was furious with Michael almost the whole way through!

I think they were trying to tell us the story of someone that struggled with starfleet principles but ends up finding their way and becoming a great captain, but she just pissed the fans off.

She did get a bit better, I now give her a pass because she told her boyfriend that if starfleet told her to she would just kill him.

She's still the least suitable captain of any show though, in my opinion.

  • I loved enterprise, I didn't think I'd be able to stop thinking 'that's the bloke from quantum leap' but he's captain Archer to me now.

Trip was great, I loved phlox, t'pol, porthos and Malcolm.

My favourite episode was the one where archer got his brain mashed by some anomaly and t'pol spent 12 years explaining the same thing to him every morning.

  • Thanks! Honestly it was hard to resist starting again immediately!

The great thing about it is there is so much to get through, by the time you've finished it the memories of the beginning are fading.

I'm excited to watch it all again!

  • Voyager is weird, for the first couple of seasons I wasn't sure if I would like it much but by the end I absolutely loved it.

I thought it got a lot better towards the end of season 3 and carried on being good until the end, mainly because I got invested in seven of nine.

I don't want to spoil anything but the shit that Janeway does is crazy. She's mad and I love her.

I even loved the finale that everyone bitches about. It was perfect voyager weirdness.
