  • The step that is now nearing completion is synthesizing Lanarkite (I think that's what it says on the paper) which is Pb2SO3, at 725°C for 24 hours. The overall goal is to replicate a recent paper about a room-temperature standard pressure superconductor. The timer is near 0 now so hopefully we'll see some action not just a kiln

  • I'm not sure if AR has already had it's big spike yet or not. It already basically exists, just isn't as good or useful as VR yet. As it gets better we may see it become a buzzword again, but AR/VR has already kinda had it's big time and is becoming more and more mainstream.

  • "I started working on Neuronpedia three weeks ago, and I'm posting on LessWrong to develop an initial community and for feedback and testing. I'm not posting it anywhere else, please do not share it yet in other forums like Reddit"

Also apparently the creator had problems with hitting API rate limits. This is definitely still in early testing so unless you are the creator it might be wise to refrain from advertising it too much.

  • From classified spy satellites? No shot. Unclassified stuff maybe, or civilian satellites. But anything military and/or classified is going to be encrypted, so unless you know the key you may be able to intercept the data but not make an image.

  • KSP is finally starting to become reality! For those who haven't played, there is an equivalent engine in the game called the "Nerv" which functions on the same principle, and is an incredibly useful engine. It's cool to see this idea finally be developed into a real system

  • Another fun thing is that at 0,0 in the center of the canvas it said "Never forget what they stole from you r/save3rdpartyapps" and later had a join-lemmy.org banner above it. We also had a few other places for the join-lemmy banner but that was the final location, and a big thanks to the Black Company discord server for helping with that.

  • Yeah we're in the fucking stone age over here. No federal e-transfer, all private healthcare, practically no public transport besides in some of the bigger cities, and even that isnt very good most of the time. Also still using imperial, way behind on a lot of tech legislation, basically relying on EU rules to carry over. There's a reason we're the 3rd world country of 1st world countries

  • Closest thing I can think of something using GPS and radio communication, but the only context I've seen or looked for it in was for finding rockets. I recently bought a kit from eggtimerrocketry.com that does not require a radio license, but there are also systems out there that require a 60mm HAM radio license. These may be too bulky or take too much assembly for your need though, and I'm not sure about battery life as they are intended for relatively short rocket flights.

The loko beacon posted by someone else looks to be similar and pretty good, not sure if it uses the same tech or not tho.
