  • Yeah that’s a big part of it…shifting off the stuff that we don’t think is important (and probably isn’t). My view is that it’s escalated to where I’m using my phone calculator for stuff I did in my head in high school (I was a cashier in HS so it was easy)…which is also not a big deal but getting a little bigger than the phone number thing. From there, what if I used it to leverage a new programming API as opposed to using the docs site. Probably not a big deal but bigger than the calculator thing to me. My point is that it’s all these little things that don’t individually matter but together add up to some big changes in the way we think. We are outsourcing our thinking which would be helpful if we used the free capacity for higher level thinking but I’m not sure if we will.

  • This is the next step towards Idiocracy. I use AI for things like Summarizing zoom meetings so I don’t need to take notes and I can’t imagine I’ll stop there in the future. It’s like how I forgot everyone’s telephone numbers once we got cell phones…we used to have to know numbers back then. AI is a big leap in that direction. I’m thinking the long term effects are all of us just getting dumber and shifting more and more “little unimportant “ things to AI until we end up in an Idiocracy scene. Sadly I will be there with everyone else.

  • Pretty sure a stated objective of the administration is the closing of FEMA with disaster response responsibility moved to the state. Josh should know this. He should be refusing any offered assistance to set an appropriate example.

  • Uses to go to Mountain Jam at Hunter Mountain in NY almost every year. It’s still a smaller event than the big ones and I think it makes a huge difference. It’s amazing but I haven’t been since before the pandemic. Camping with a couple thousand of your closest friends that you’ve never met while live music plays all day and night is incredible. Just migrating between campsites and sitting down for beers with everyone while they do the same with your campsite is a lesson to humanity.

  • I’ve had an Apple Watch 5 since it came out and I see no reason to upgrade. The only thing I really dislike is the battery life but to fix that you’d need to get a Garmin or similar. So can’t think of a reason I would upgrade.

  • I wonder what happens to Google without the advertising monopoly. They kill off everything else they build so realistically they are just an ad company at this point which offers a declining search engine. While they won’t be dethroned anytime soon in search, they keep making it worse so I have to imagine it won’t be gaining users. If they did break it out, maybe that will improve search.

  • Pretty awesome and they have crazy features for camping like a slide out cooking top. I like the interiors a lot. Owned quite a few Volvos because I liked their interiors as they feel really quality (to me) and just make me happy to sit in and I got that same feel for Rivian. I focus on interior because that’s where I sit and I think of the Rivian interior as a mix of Volvo and Land Rover. I do a lot of camping and this would be the vehicle for that…you get basically a remote generator anywhere you go.

  • As an American, I would recommend that folk reconsider travel to the US during the current administration. There are no longer checks and balances and it’s a very dangerous place at the moment. They’re removing all accountability for the border patrol and any immigration adjacent services so they can now do whatever they want. You’re at the complete mercy of the immigration service and they have full latitude to do whatever they want (legal or illegal) as the threat of repercussions have been removed. Be safe out there.

  • Trump spent his entire campaign saying he was going to do crazy and stupid shit. He highlighted that he wanted the DOE shutdown. This is what the country voted for. I am astonished and disappointed but the truth is that the majority of Americans that voted were too dumb to care (best case) or possibly just really into fascism (possible case).
