  • As someone who runs a mini homelab in a building I don't have access to the Internet hardware, you'd be surprised how a combination of the two can be very reliable and fairly fast.

All my devices have a gigabit connection to one another but the web router is just a 5gHz link.

  • If you want a free version with ads they have Freevee. I mean, they don't have the same shows but it's free.

  • I know that in the future Matrix will only get better. I know that in the future Discord will become the victim of enshitification.

Discord does have a lot of features that Matrix does not have yet. And more and more of those eventually will be behind a paywall.

Plus, I appreciate the fact that I could use a large selection a matrix clients. The only third-party client I can find for Discord is Discordo.

  • I don't game regularly, and Steamdeck is probably not something I'm going to be purchasing anytime soon. However, I was hopeful that Valve's investment into Linux would be beneficial and to the larger Linux landscape.

I'm hopeful that more companies will look at Valve's success and start building more on Linux in a way that will benefit the upstream community.

  • I actually trust Microsoft far more than I trust Google. I use Outlook as my main email provider and Edge for when I need something that rejects Firefox.

Besides trust, Edge just feels snappier on Linux than Chrome. Chrome is so bloaty theses days.

  • flatpak install firefox -y

  • Pick a scab and they fall off.

  • The classic idea that someone's hairstyle can be more disruptive than harassing a student and suspending them. This comes down to racism plain and simple.

  • It's wild what can be done with some clever aliases. Linux is better now than ever before.

  • LA Metro is doing a similar service as an additional option with their transit. It's designed as an option to fill in the gaps. More need to look to LA Metro. They're doing a lot right.

  • I work for a small company and I run Linux for work without issues. However we're small enough that we don't have an IT department. Most of our tools are web tools or are platform independent.

In contrast my girlfriend's company uses Windows over a remote connection via thin client. It's a high security job though most of her work is in Microsoft Office and SharePoint.

Setting her job up with only Linux would be a million times harder.

  • They did that in a McD near where I live. Before, when I wanted a refill I would:

    • Get a refill

Clearly we can make this process better. Now at the newly remodeled McD it's as simple as:

    • Wait at the counter to get an overworked employees attention
    • Tell them you want a refill
    • Throw your entire cup away in the trash
    • Wait for your replacement drink

"It's an evolution toward convenience," Mikel Petro

  • Yeah, she's a jerk. But can we not just slut shame people. Is that too much to ask?

  • That's the Neat Part, You Don't.

  • This is just balancing out. Anything that gets over-hyped will eventually drop in use. It'll eventually be a boring yet useful tool just like spreadsheets, spellcheck, or email.

  • I have Guake for passive tasks like music payback or anytime I want a full screen terminal to hold my focus, like when I'm writing in Neovim.

Tillix is my active terminal. Taking notes, active chat sessions, or running a SSH connection. Anything that I want on screen permanently.

  • Adsense was made in 2003. That's when Google entered the ad industry. Chrome was released in beta in 2008. That's 5 years of being an ad agency before creating Chrome.
