  • She's a bit zonked out today (after keeping me up all night), but here's Lady Halo Shadowfoot:

I think dad is a Maine Coon, but I'm not 100% certain - there's a huge orange-white one that's literally the size of a pitbull that came by to visit a while back. Must have weighed nearly 25lbs - looked like a damn Totoro creature. No fear - he literally stared me down on my own porch and refused to move until he had checked in on Miss Halo through the window.

  • I'm only on reddit to bring people here. Because we do have cookies.

  • FL 11 was an amazing piece of software - that's the version that really kicked it into the big leagues.

You should check out the newest version - the download manager is much better since FL Studio 20, and they've got a bunch of new packages and plugins. The Flex plugin is one of the best traditional instrument synths I've ever worked with (think it came in on v 17 or 18).

Even the new version has excellent performance on my 10 year old desktop - you'll love it when you get a chance to upgrade.

  • If you're into music production, FL Studio has a lifetime license that's stood the test of time, and has kept up with or exceeded the capabilities of packages like Reason, Ableton, and Logic. It was the first to really embrace an open VST plugin interface, and has so many options that even after 25 years I haven't yet explored them all. It also comes with a ton of free instruments you can download (basically free DLC).

I picked up a lifetime license for $99 in 2001 when it was Fruity Loops 2.0. Used it for 10 years as it evolved and was amazed that it was keeping up with the big boys. That encouraged me to drop another $80 to upgrade to the producer edition to start making professional level tracks - and I was not disappointed.

The best part? The base license is still just $99. Producer edition is still $179.

EDIT: side note - the demo is actually the full software package, so you can try it out for free. The license just unlocks the capacity to save projects with the plugins that are covered by your licensing.

  • The beard won't save you, Teddy. You're still the:

Too bad Al Green ain't in the Senate to cane your chucklefuck swarmy shitweasel ass.

  • The Empire was fought to a standstill, and Lady Crawford Organa took her seat on the high judicial council.

Or maybe it's just the judicial council. I dunno. I'm high.

But well done Wisconsin - the force was fucking with you today!

  • Lmao.

Dude, not even the English could keep the Quebecers from speaking French, and they tried for over 100 years after the Brits took the province in the Seven Years War.

Good luck with that one, Cheeto.

  • !lemmysilver

Lot better than that train wreck they have going on over at /r/field... well done, my liege.

On a side note, your gator faithful await your call to dethrone DeSantis. When will the beacons of Orlando be lit, my lord?

Edit: Please disregard - that was meant for the King of Florida.

  • Sauce? And proof?

Karoline "Lyin'" Leavitt ain't exactly a good source...

In 2022, Karoline Leavitt ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in New Hampshire's 1st district, ultimately losing to the incumbent congressman Chris Pappas. The election loss was, however, not the only setback Leavitt faced. That same year, Leavitt found herself in the middle of a campaign finance scandal. In November 2022, End Citizens United, a non-governmental campaign finance committee, accused Leavitt of illegally accepting donations that exceeded the stipulated limit and never repaid her donors. "Karoline Leavitt continues to prove she'll do whatever it takes to win this race, even if it means breaking the law," Tiffany Muller, president of End Citizens United, said at the time.

Three years later, Leavitt admitted to the violation after declaring that her failed campaign owed about $200,000 in refunds to donors who contributed over the legal limits. Leavitt's admission, however, was met with backlash from social media users who quickly reacted with criticism. "So @karolineleavitt stole the money. Campaign Funding is separate entities for a reason ... If she took the money from her campaign funds, then she embezzled it, she stole it, thats a crime. Lock. Her. Up." one person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. "When will we as a country start holding these crooks accountable?" another person questioned.

Karoline Leavitt has made a few false claims as the White House press secretary

Since assuming office as the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt has faced backlash for making misleading claims. During her first official White House briefing on January 28, 2025, Leavitt alleged that the Trump administration had blocked the release of millions of dollars meant to fund condoms in war-stricken Gaza. "DOGE and OMB also found that there was about to be $50 million taxpayer dollars that went out the door to fund condoms in Gaza. That is a preposterous waste of taxpayer money. So that's what this pause is focused on, being good stewards of tax dollars," Leavitt said in the press conference while defending Donald Trump's freeze on federal grants.

Leavitt's comment has, however, been dismissed by several experts given the lack of evidence. "It seems clear to me there was no $50 million in condoms going to Gaza. That is, at best, a mischaracterization," Matthew Kavanagh, Director of Georgetown University's Center for Global Health Policy and Politics, told CNN. Similarly, Jeremy Konyndyk, president of Refugees International and a former USAID official described Leavitt's claim as "total garbage."

The irony of Leavitt spreading misinformation hasn't gone unnoticed, especially given her past warnings about holding the media accountable for misrepresenting the Trump administration. But perhaps this is a reminder that those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

  • Further examination of the leak showed that at 3% of those accounts were run by real people. 50% of those accounts had mail.ru email addresses.

/s but I'm guessing my numbers aren't far off.

  • Agreed - I'm somewhat disappointed in the toned down language in the article - "accidentally" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that headline, and "can't get him back" should be "refuses to even try to get him back."

  • Wow - for a moment I thought you had stolen my cat - nearly the same markings. Is his/her fur shiny?

The reason I ask is because mine is half snow bengal, and she inherited the "glow" bengal fur gets in certain sunlight, and it looks like the one of the parents of yours might be a bengal as well.

If so, you've got a rare cat on your hands - cashmere bengals (long hair) are very uncommon due to recessive gene traits, and highly sought after as their fur is hypoallergenic. If they come from the Amur leopard cat line (snow bengal), they're even rarer - a kitten with papers can fetch $7k.

Mine came to me as part of the cat distribution system (in fact, her mom, who is feral and I can't catch, is likely going to have another litter under my house), so no papers, but she's the best cat I've ever owned. Very smart, very polite, and despite the fact I'm allergic to other cats, I can rub my face in her fur with no problems. Very needy though if she doesn't get attention - most social cat I've ever owned.

  • Pritzker is rapidly becoming my top choice for President in 2028, if we're still allowed elections by then. The man has the character and intelligence needed to dig the country out of Trump's mess.

  • Hmm... the EV part is rough. You might be better off selling it and getting a hybrid for the trip (Civic hybrids run like a top imho - my 2006 has 240k and hasn't had an issue yet). Charging infrastructure in the west isn't great. You also have the option of storing more fuel on board if you don't want to stop in hostile territory. You might even make money on the deal.

  • You'll need money to flee, at least $10k on hand, likely more, to start the process for Canadian citizenship.

It will be easier to get to a blue state than it will across the border. Right now, all you need is transportation and considerably less seed money. It's likely smarter to relocate to a blue state while you work out your international travel.

Since you're in Ohio, the closest metro that will likely protect you is Chicago. That's a good place to start if you're looking to go further north.

If you can make it to the west coast, Oregon is likely the cheapest place to start, but be aware that eastern Oregon has its fair share of maga. Do not travel through or visit Idaho on your way (especially if you're a person of color), and avoid Utah if at all possible. CO to NM to AZ is pretty safe if you're looking to take the southern route to CA. You'll probably be ok getting through Indiana as long as you keep to the freeway and don't stop.

The current administration will absolutely use any unrest it can to solidify its grip, and they are, as @the_crotch@sh.it.just.works mentions, looking for just such an event to declare martial law.

But @pourous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml is also correct in understanding that this process has already begun, and that retaliatory actions are not specifically analogous, especially as it's very likely that the Reichstag fire was a false flag event engineered by the Nazis themselves as an excuse for Kristallnacht.

Will this kind of event help in the long term? I'm uncertain. On the one hand, it's really good to see resistance take physical form with the potential to inspire further action, but on the other, it means that the right can use it as an excuse to further oppress. Since the mass media has been captured by the right, it's most likely that the perception of this event will be tailored to reflect the latter.

So, unless this action created an impact on the GOP beyond simple property damage (like destroying lists of political opponents they're looking to deport), I think this action will likely backfire per @the_crotch's conclusion. However, that could be offset by the publicity inspiring further resistance on the left. And @pourous_grey_matter is very correct in understanding that we have a very small window of opportunity to act.

So kiss and make up - you're on the same side, and celebrate the fact that you can argue about tactics publicly.

We may not have that option for much longer.

  • Agreed (context: same legacy system work, 20 years), although given the size and scale of the tech debt involved, I'd peg it at 5 years if you had a team of 100+ COBOL developers.

    10 to do it right.

Once you start dealing with databases older than SQL and languages older than C, things get funky real fast.
