  • #1 rule on LinkedIn when responding to recruiters - ask them what the pay, benefits and hours are before providing anything other than what's on your public facing resume.

If the job offer is legit, they'll respond quickly with real numbers. If they throw up some BS like "competitive pay dependent on experience", then they're either a scammer or someone who doesn't have any real authority to actually hire you. They'll try to string you along so you're invested, and won't balk when you find out their offer is below market rate. If they're not up front in any way, or leave you hanging for basic information, let it go. They'll just waste your time and energy, or put you in an untenable situation where you won't be able to trust them if you do end up working for them.

  • Your comment just made me realize that I bought Black Mesa awhile back and never got around to playing it. Thanks for resurrecting a forgotten piece of my Steam library, kind stranger!

  • Probably an unpopular opinion, but the Magnum in L4D2. For whatever reason, it's the most satisfying gun I've used in any game - the weight, action, recoil and sound all come together in a perfect package.

  • Looks like it was a practice run. It's relatively easy to take out webservers with a standard DDOS attack. This is considerably more sophisticated, and I think they were testing it on gaming networks in prep for a larger attack on financial and/or government IT infrastructure.

  • Someone's been munching Elon's Special K for breakfast. New marketing tagline just dropped tho:

Brave browser, because you'd have to be brave to use a browser built by a Nazi

  • Yeah, Newsom has some bad takes, and he's never been a progressive. Never expect him to vote against the corporate headwind - he won't. However, it's important to note they are allowing exceptions on a case by case basis, and it's not a full work week, so clearly he's trying to allow some room for compromise.

The other interesting part of the article not reflected in the headline is that:

The governor is also directing CalHR to make it easier for former federal employees in certain areas to fill state service vacancies.

I think this is an excellent idea, and I'd love to see my state do all it can to provide employment to Feds displaced by Trump's bullshit.

  • Was there anyone in the audience who didn't need a drink after that shitshow?

  • Nah, y'all should accept delivery then refuse to pay. Give him a taste of his own medicine.

  • In related news, Alito & team should be impeached for this blatantly unconstitutional dissent:

JUSTICE ALITO , with whom JUSTICE THOMAS, JUSTICE GORSUCH , and JUSTICE KAVANAUGH join, dissenting from the denial of the application to vacate order.

Does a single district-court judge who likely lacks jurisdiction have the unchecked power to compel the Govern ment of the United States to pay out (and probably lose forever) 2 billion taxpayer dollars? The answer to that question should be an emphatic “No,” but a majority of this Court apparently thinks otherwise. I am stunned.

That's literally the job of the judicial branch, you fucking dumbass.

  • Naw...

    #TardisTrump

Send him back to the 40's where he belongs. Preferably to the front lines of Leningrad in 1941. Let's see how much he likes Russians and fascists then...

  • In my defense, your honor, I too was misled by the headline, and coupled with my own ignorance, truly thought this was shiny and new.

I throw myself upon the mercy of the court.

  • We are not reddit

    That's why I'm here ;)

Here's an article on the integration that goes into decent detail. And here's the git repo, but you should be able to see via your plugin interface. The developer is very responsive and a great guy.

What I've found is that it does enable crossposting, and is a good tool for publishing your content out. Comments do come in if enabled. Subscribing to offsite Mastodon users is very "interesting" however - like being able to see people's DMs if they're across servers. There's also issues with using it with cheaper hosts (Bluehost, I'm looking at you), as certain security settings will disable part or all of the feed.

To me, it feels good to use if your WP has one user publishing content. If you have other users on the site, it could start getting messy on the backend. Incoming spam is also an issue - Jetpack isn't set up to scan incoming Fediverse content.

  • I haven't investigated / tested it yet, but it should be possible. The thing is that Lemmy and Mastodon use different parts of the ActivityPub protocol to publish content, which is why interaction between the two is "interesting". My guess is that you'll be able to post and reply to comments and DMs, but it may be difficult to create posts in communities.

Side note, Mbin combines the Mastodon/Lemmy interpretation of ActivityPub protocols pretty well, so it's possible, but when I last used it was still pretty fragile, and had stability issues. When the project was kbin, it had a real problem during the CSAM attacks on the Fediverse about two years ago, which led to the biggest instances being defederated and the founder eventually having to abandon the project.

  • It was new to me, and hadn't seen it posted here - sorry if the language in the headline is misleading. Thanks for the links! I just started researching this after working with some Wordpress -> ActivityPub plugins and was curious if the functionality could extend to BlueSky.

  • Unless he steps up and starts fighting alongside the progressives trying to do something (like joining Bernie's current Midwest tour), I don't see him as being a viable candidate for 2028.

I like Walz. A lot. But he's got to show more leadership on the national stage right now, ala Newsom, Whitmer, Pritzker and (in a pleasant surprise) Mills. I think he was thrust onto the national stage before he was ready by the DNC looking to swing the Midwest with a non-threatening centrist candidate, and his silence after the election (and the lack of a real response from the Harris campaign) has left it to other governors to take up the mantle of national leadership.

Would I vote for him if he were on the ticket? Yes. Would I vote for him over Newsom, Whitmer or Pritzker - probably not unless he steps up and takes the battle to Trump NOW.

  • Good point. It might be wiser to invest in gardening supplies, backyard chickens, and a set of emergency camping gear in case of unexpected homelessness during the anticipated Kristallnacht 2, American Boogaloo.

  • Yep, crypto is just the vehicle for the laundering in the short term. However, once he starts putting US Reserves and assets into this crypto-backed fund, it becomes amazingly easy for the same oligarchs to pull the same rug pull that Donnie just did to MAGA - except it will be with our tax dollars, and it will be damn near untraceable depending on which crypto they're using (Monero, anyone?)

I agree with your wider analysis, but I think it goes further than just seizing assets and creating a soft landing point for Russian oligarchs. That was last decade. I think this is far worse.

Looking at a long term economic outlook, it appears to be an inside attack on our monetary system to try and displace the US as a reserve currency. The dollar is strong because it hasn't had a real rug pull since 1929. Trump's already speedrunning Hoover's presidency, and that plays right into Russian, Chinese, and Saudi hands.

See that's where America's real power lies - not in its military, or its resources. It lies in the dollar, because it's a symbol of stability and trust. Break that trust, and there's an opportunity to gain control of how the world does business. If the dollar collapses, America's power collapses.

And right now, there's a whole lot of people rooting for America to collapse. Trump even campaigned on it.

I think this is the long gamble by China and their soft support of Russia. If the dollar goes, that gives the RMB an enormous opening to become the reserve currency of choice. Because in times of transition, money flows towards stability, and China is looking rock solid in comparison to the EU and US.

For us little folks in the short term, be ready for big inflationary swings. Might be a good time to start buying gold.

EDIT - This popped up on my feed immediately after posting this comment - kinda hilarious in a "holy shit we're all going to hell so might as well enjoy the fireworks" kinda way:

SEC Drops charges against Chinese billionaire after he pumps $30 million into Trump's crypto scheme.

There it is folks, pay for play. We're so fucking fucked.
