that would require adequate and attentive staffing at the counter.. which they already don't have. if nobody 'sees' you at the counter with an empty cup, nobody has to be paid to fill it back up.
it's all about the profits. that's the only 'reason' they're doing it. every time someone pushes one of those buttons, it costs them a nickel or some-such, out of their already insane margins on those beverages.
that's what we used to have here... stable and very reasonable rent for 20 years, through several ownership changes, even. then this last and current one is just your stereotypical greedy landlord,
first thing the current landlord did when he bought the building is raise the rent for all tenants.. despite everyone having leases--the terms and obligations of existing leases is supposed to transfer to a new owner. but they don't care, and they 100% would have raised them further (and in addition to the other increases since), had anyone pursued any sort of action against them. we have very little in terms of tenant protection laws here.
and by design, it will discourage customers from getting even a single 'free' refill. it already takes 5 minutes to have a human take an order at the counter. if it takes 5 minutes to get a refill, very few will even bother, and more than a few will opt for a larger and more expensive drink to begin with.
they take so fkn long now to 'prepare' an order once it's placed, i'm always deep into my first refill (and sometimes on my second) by the time the order is ready. if i can't refill as i wait, i'm going next door to burger king or culvers.
when we've had netflix (off and on a couple months at a time, last was about a year and a half ago), we often encountered 540p max playback on "hd" titles that should have (legitimately) been streaming at 1080p; and we rarely were able to use all the simultaneous connections of the plan (usually only limit-1)
districts in some parts of the country do have classes, senior seminars, or workshops, that cover things like this and other 'life skills'. it was a graduation requirement at my public high school, waaaay back in the 1980s in minnesota.
ads on facebook, which includes 'sponsored' bullshit in your feed, are dangerous. links to bogus malware-infested and scareware/support scams are quite common in those. i have a couple users a month, at least, get tripped-up by one of those.
opera isn't opera anymore, it's chinese-owned now (since 2016). if you want a browser by one of the original founders of the 'old' opera, look at vivaldi... although it, too, is chromium-based.
