  • I hate how much time and energy is wasted on this bullshit...
You'd think the smartest people around would come up with a be better system than this. I mean they did, but some of the highest decision-makers have big incentives to keep things as they are. So mark that one more on the "capitalism ruins everything it touches" scoreboard.

  • In case you are serious: It's probably not.
When you're not careful with parallel processing / multithreading, you can run into something called a "race condition", where results of parallel computations end up in the wrong order because some were finished faster than others.
The joke here is that whoever "programmed" this commic is bad at parallel progmming and got the bubbles in the wrong order because of that.
The image makes perfect sense if you read it in the order 3, 1, 2.

  • Her argument for being vocal is that her and her generation will have to live with the consequences of our fuckups the longest and hardest. I think that's pretty valid. Also, she wasn't "elected by the central climate movement council to be their representative", if anyone, the media "elected" her and gave her a platform. So maybe be mad at them for not choosing someone "better"?

There are plenty of old white men with respectable titles saying the exact same thing as her. If a "climate change laggard" wants to hear the same message in a deeper voice, they certainly can. For those who can be moved to action at all (and there are definitely many who are "too far gone" in some conspiracy bullshit) she can be effective for many, especially younger people who have to be shaken from their stupor. So I think it's a bit critical to "tell the girl to shut up".

  • I mean the scientists have been loud and clear. So have some politicians, but that's not a special "story" for the media. So it just happened that a very vocal (at the time) little Girl got a lot of attention, because it seemed so special.

But how does what she is saying distract from the real issue? That's not an attack, I'm genuinely curious what you think the real issue is and how she distracts from it..

  • Funny you should mention GitHub actions. It's exactly one of those tools where I was like "this seems cool. I would like to use it, but I don't even know what for..." and then when I tried to look into it some more I was just more confused than before.

  • See, it's like when the pticher catches a five yard touchdown right after being handed an off-site yelow card. If he doesn't tackle a goal in the next round it will never be a double-birdie and I know nothing about sportsball.

  • Let me explain: The humor in this comic strip lies in the absurdity as well as the "comedic timing" in the pacing of the individual panels. The symbol at the start clearly depicts a very minimalist version of a person on a bike. The comic however "takes it literally" and imagines a person driving around with only two wheels, one of which runs between their butcheeks (also a "funny part" of the human body). It doesn't show this right away but contrasts two panels where "nothing happens" with the sudden appearance of this... Thing. It gradually reveals three funny things: First, the absurd thought that what is shown in the symbol is literally what is happening, as explained before. Second, the wheel running through the butcheeks, and lastly, that the person doing this is suffering. This means, there must be some even more absurd circumstances that lead to this whole situation.

I hope I could explain to you how this is funny. Although jokes notoriously die while being dissected.

Edit: aaaaaand the comment is gone.
