  • Pardons require a sympathetic governor, which will never happen.

Jury nullification requires that everyone on the jury votes not-guilty, which is a pretty high bar to hit.

A hung jury, on the other hand, simply requires one or more members of the jury to vote not-guilty. He could still be re-tried, of course, but having just one principled person is a lot easier than having all 12.

  • The bag they eventually located [looked] just like Peak Design’s crowdfunded “Everyday” V1 model [and] was likely bought between 2016 and 2019. Dering [...] called the NYPD tip line to share what he knew and vowed to do “whatever is possible” to identify the shooter, including consulting Peak Design’s legal team to see what he could share with police.

Headline correction: He denies specifically snitching on Luigi, but would eagerly have done so if they were able but found that he didn't have the data.

  • "I hope we're not going to need too many because I want to get them out, and I don't want them sitting in camp for the next 20 years."

That's good to depend on identifying where they came from and getting some other country to take them. [Hint: most countries aren't going to want them.]

Trump emphasized he'd act "absolutely within the confines of the law."

    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

He seemed to reject economists' view that deporting millions of migrant agricultural workers could trigger a spike in the price of goods, saying, "No, because we're going to let people in, but we have to let them in legally. We don't want people to come in from jails."

.... Hmm, that reads like he's going to take bribes from companies to bring in workers (maybe that $1B thing he was tweeting about covers this too), or even accept bribes from workers to come in.

I'm also willing to bet that at some point he's just going to declare victory: of, yeah, we got enough of them, scared them off, the ones that are left are the "good ones", the bad ones have been reported except for some that the Democrats wouldn't let us deport even though they're very evil people but don't worry, you're not supporting them, we're having them work for their room and board."

And the media will just report exactly what he claims with no fact-checking or pushback and his followers will believe him unreservedly.

  • I think this is just his handlers and the media setting up a backstory so that, when people start complaining about prices not coming down, their side have something to point back to to say, "Hey, no, we told you it was an issue!"

  • I have a few levels for my gift-giving, like immediate family, close friends, coworkers, etc. I try to have all gifts within each level total to being within a dollar of each other. For me, "stocking stuffers" are the things I use to bring the total value for a person within range.

  • GFM will disable the fundraiser; one of their restrictions is that the fundraiser can't be used for "the legal defense of financial and violent crimes". Wait until things are farther along. There may be some kind of defense fund announced. If there isn't, then my personal suggestion would be to mail anonymous cash to his lawyers (once they're announced), saying it's to be used for his defense.

  • I'd try looking on the floor, underneath and behind furniture, and between/behind seat cushions etc.

If you're like me and hate crawling around on the floor and can't always see behind the furniture, you can use your cellphone camera to look for you. If it ends up in a place that's hard to reach, like between the desk and the wall, you can try securing a magnet to a piece of string and "fishing" for it.

  • the Arcade Mall in Providence, Rhode Island

lmao. I can't be the only person who finds it amusing that this is like half a mile from the mall that Michael Townsend's group built that secret apartment in.

  • Some imaginary audience of post 40 wine aunts that also love marvel and pay for Disney+?

Who do you think writes half the stuff on AO3? This audience actually exists, and is fairly sizeable.

If it's not for you, that's fine. But a Marvel universe intended only for teenage boy nerds is pretty dull and repetitive; the MCU didn't get that big by aiming solely for them.

And yeah, when you start gatekeeping, saying "those people don't exist" and "you don't belong here", maybe it is time to take a look at your prejudices.

  • Apparently he and his wife have been living in separate houses, so there was some mind of problem there. The ones I feel sorry for are the kids. They look to be mid-to-late teens, so they likely have a poor understanding of exactly what their dad's company did, and they certainly have no standing to change things - and they're the perfect age to be spending lots of their time on the internet.

They wake up one morning and their dad's been shot and literally the entire internet is celebrating? That's absolutely brutal.
