Wow. That sounds like a blast. Have heard some Barbershop & knew it is a US college tradition, but had no idea about the brigades.
As a curious aside, saw a thing on television just this evening about a Portuguese musical tradition which exists in their universities. The style & tunes are very different to Barbershop, and they make use of string instruments as well (though everybody has to sing) but they too have familiar repertoire and appear at various events on campus, as well as competing with other university troupes.
Possibly attempting some "we've changed now" reputation-saving. They have no hope of winning any cases against them, and probably not even of minor points of the cases.
I blocked a LOT of communities via browser & some via Memmy. I think most via browser as I could search for a topic then block all of the communities that contain that topic in their name.
It is relatively easy to block through Memmy, though you still have to see a post from a community you're disinterested in seeing in All, then open the community then opt to block it from a drop down menu in the top right. I see in the settings that it is possible to block instances & users, but haven't tried this yet.
And of course you can choose to avoid All & just view Local or Subscribed.
(Fwiw, also blocked masses of subreddits from appearing on r/all, but definitely have no idea how I did that.)
Under people's usernames on their comments in a thread.
So like, I recognise you from Beehaw & plenty of other regulars, but underneath "jarfil" it says "beehaw.org". Useful when skimming a thread to see which instance a given type of view is coming from.
It may be a setting which I enabled at some point - am using the Memmy app.
Going to have a look. Not because I don't believe you, but because it seems so at odds with the usual vibe here that am wondering whether someone unleashed some bot accounts to push this stuff.
If it is regular Beehaw members, that is for sure unnerving!
EDIT: am too dumb at internet to find it. Tried a search (for "ai" to keep it broad), browsing local and looking at subscriptions which aren't totally incompatible places for such a topic, but coming up blank. Feel free to fling a link my way.
Keeping him unblocked but muted, just in case he threatens to approach. Having forewarning (and evidence if it really escalates) is useful & my feelings are now such that he's incapable of upsetting me.
Painfully. Ribcage & sternum in bits following some overly exuberant dancing on the 30th. Hopefully just bruising & fractures and not soft tissue damage, but extra uncomfortable with a bad cough.
Still, should help me quit smoking as in too much pain to want to & likewise to shift pattern of seeing boyfriend to something far less frequent.
EDIT: realised I had to end things with boyfriend, so did that then got a barrage of super-manipulative texts, complete with vague suicide threats, so definitely dodged a bullet there. Very supportive message then came in from a mutual friend, so was able to clear up a few things.
Have so much going on (nothing bad, though some confounding stresses are trying to emerge) that have been procrastinating on replies to the usual weekly threads, and now a summary feels ever more distant.
As for Christmas itself, my tiny & fairly reclusive family go for a super low stress affair, but many years even that much feels far big a palaver. Planning to propose we just do it once every few years, and hone in on the aspects we genuinely like.
Oh no. Hope next week's a bit less meh.
