El Salvador blocks US senator from visiting wrongly deported Salvadoran man

Oh, very nice. I also go deer hunting for much the same reasons.
So what would move the needle in your view?

I deleted my reply after I saw that comment, but since you replied, I undeleted it.
Even adult animals shouldn't just be released wherever. We had someone last weekend want to bring in a fox, but they didn't really want it to get released back to their property since they have chickens. They told the person it's not like you can just toss an animal wherever. They have families, some species don't do well alone, and if you drop them someplace different than where they're from it's not like they magically know where food, water, or shelter are to be found. How well would any of us do dropped in a random place we've never been with none of our stuff?
Rehabbers don't charge you if you bring them an animal. You can even text them a pic and they can say bring it in or they'll come get it or just put it back where you found it. If we came upon a human in distress we wouldn't try to treat them or diagnose them on our own (hopefully!) so why do so many want to do that to a random animal?
It's good you at least tried to talk some sense into them! Animals are fragile in some ways, but still amazingly strong and adaptable at the same time. Good luck, little bun!

I'm new to rehabbing this season, but when they showed us the baby rabbit room on our tour, they said the door is only opened twice and day and you're not supposed to talk in there because babies rabbits are very susceptible to dying from stress.
This rabbit looks bigger than most of the ones in there, but if they want it to have the best chances of living and not getting too tame and unable to survive in the wild, it should go to a rehab ASAP.
How does one judge what is false hope in a struggle that never ends?
There have been countless people through history that have been way more brutal, violent, and irrational than probably anyone alive now. But we as humans have survived as a whole. Some tyrannical rules have carried on for multiple generations of victims, but they all end. People will never get over being oppressed. A lot of successful control is done by people who learn to balance exploiting people with giving them enough to make it not feel worth it.
In America, 2016-2020 was tempered by enough rational people, but I don't think people on either side would say 2025 feels the same as the previous term did. This is pure recklessness and disregard for order, and that is going to be harder and harder to justify to the masses. Actions already bring taken haven't had enough time for the repercussions to be felt yet for most people they will affect. Red voters in blue states will suffer. Farmers will suffer. The unskilled and uneducated will suffer. They won't be any happier being played for fools than anyone else would be. You can already see pretty hardcore Repubs asking if giving complete control of tariffs to this guy was a bad idea. Hardly any have even gone into effect as scheduled and people have seen there is no logic to it and it will hurt every group of people.
Having 1% of the population be satisfied with the current status quo is unsustainable. That doesn't mean life may not suck for the next 4 or longer. If you were a modern Repub, you may have thought life sucked since Reagan, Nixon, or Lincoln. But they persisted. And now that the tide has turned, now we have to keep doing our thing until our vision of order is achieved. And we won't even always know what that even is.
Would you be happy now if we went back to how things were under Biden? We probably would have been if the last 3 months hadn't happened. But we still had everything in place to allow an administration like this to happen. And now who know what hasn't been compromised by Musk now at this point. So I don't think we can "just go back" even if every MAGA person vanished into the ether. But we can make tomorrow a little bit better than today. And when you set realistic goals, you can find hope, and sometimes an opportunity will present itself to take a bigger slice back than you expected, and you will be ready for it because you aren't mired in nihilism.
You're allowed to feel beaten, tired, and depressed, and you can and should discuss that with people, but seeing every comment on all the threads be marked by comments of hopelessness is just not great for anything. You guys all have good things to say, and I like when that feels like the overall vibe of the threads.
I'm glad to see your original comment. There is a lot of pessimism going around and it feels like a guy spitting on a forest fire to try and put it out. But we won't get through this in one dramatic event. There's got to be a ton of this little stuff first. We've watched countless other judges just give in, but this one said, nah, do it right or don't do it. Every bit of resistance adds up. Authoritarianism only stays strong when people don't do the most basic of things to oppose it.
I'd like to see less people adding the statements of hopelessness to their comments though. These people have no divine right to run our countries, and we don't need to accept their injustice. We're each welcome to express our tolerance of their actions to the extent we feel comfortable doing. To some that will be just saying no to illegal or unjust things. Some people will discover direct action. Some will be the protection for those that can't or won't take a more aggressive position. But there is a role for everyone to take if we want to change what we have right now.
Even after something like John Brown's rebellion attempt, it took a long time for anything to come of that extreme event, but it had to start somewhere, and we can all be a spark of rebellion in our own social circles.

Interesting article. I found myself having a hard time getting mad at maple syrup being sold as snake oil, because compared to many things, it seems harmless, but the business ethics are definitely ick, and the fact this was tax money being spent on promoting it, and that this kind of this is something the Musk lackeys won't do anything to reduce.
Real maple syrup is wonderful stuff and it amazes me it needs any kind of promotion. All the fake syrups are pretty bleh in comparison and they easily could have gone after that ultra-processed, artificially flavored goop instead of just making things up. I still think their grading system is dumb and misleading in modern context, but that's the only knock against them I have.
I get the extra dark stuff in a giant jug from a local farmer on the mountain we go deer hunting on and split it up into mason jars to last for the year and it tastes wonderful and I'm supporting the small side business of an honest working man. He has a small wooden handpainted sign on his barn saying "maple syrup" and that's it, so I think his advertising budget has long since been covered,

I feel it's even stupider than that. The 2 met in person yesterday in DC. I was ready for them to bring the guy back and make a big show about how magnanimous he is to bring him back just to please the people or something.
But instead, Trump is all "well I couldn't possibly tell the great nation of El Salvador what to do," cameras pan over to Bukele, "uhhh, you want me to smuggle a guy into the US???"
You clowns are literally right next to each other, acting like the other person isn't there. Bukele could say "hey, do you want the guy back?" and that would be that. But they just play a game with a guy's life and Steve Miller goes and says he wants to do the same with everybody that looks at him wrong.
I get what you're saying. I've made that mistake before.
We were a remote team and never even got a new manager when the old one left, and me and the supervisor are friends IRL.
Good times.
I'm not a programmer, but I learned how to write a number of Excel macros to automate repetitive and tedious tasks.
There were quite a number that really saved a ton of time, but the best were a pair took about 3 full days work for 3 or 4 people and made it into 10 minute jobs for 2 people.
It freed up so much time every month, and the job went from miserable and error prone to being much more reliable and let us spend time improving related processes rather than trudging through piles of data to get it formatted and sent to the right people.
They're good. This is the second time I've had one. It's like a regular pancake but a bit denser and it has a nice crisp to the outside. I mostly wanted to maple syrup (my brother is friends with the guy who made it) for my sore throat.
We've got the Aldi house brand ones. Good stuff!
A Ricola cough drop, or if that doesn't count, a generic Kodiak Cake.
From Thomas Jefferson
It's not a long letter, and I'd recommend reading the whole thing, but the quote the other comment is referring to is in bold type near the end.
The It Could Happen Here podcast just discussed why people like Elon have been trying to present themselves as gamers.
They state video games are played by 3 billion people, and gaming generates more revenue than movies, tv, and music combined. It is a huge, untapped group of people that is misunderstood by most politicians.
People like Musk of Sam Altman present themselves as gamers to try to get the support/money/etc of this massive group of people. It's also a way to spread a narrative within a group that will fly under the radar of politicians.
GamerGate showed the power of a potential stoking of the fire of this group of otherwise unrelated individuals.
Exposing Elon as the fake he is in this arena takes away his power within that group. He is a poser, so it isn't hard, but it cuts him off of an avenue of power he's wishing to grasp and manipulate.
I don't want to have to deal with the mod stuff, exactly like OP said. I'm just here to promote owls, conservation, and wildlife rehab. I do have a great mod that lets me do pretty much anything I want and will do stickies and banner changes and such for me, and I just keep giving good content.
Wow, did not know this was a thing. I'm a bit shocked.
While I didn't expect him to be perfect, his actions really are not representing what I thought I'd be getting when I voted for him. Oz would probably have still been worse, but I am annoyed we're stuck with this clown for now. Hope we get a better option in the future.
This is the most important advice for investing right now. Volatility is something you should be considering before investing, not afterwards. Let present holdings ride, and use this as a time to recheck your personal comfort level with investment risk going forward.
And just today alone he gained new future golfing buddies Russel Brand and Jean Claude Van Damme!
But if the US asks for Europe to consider American opinions, wouldn't that in itself be diversity?! Paradoxical! 🤔
They're not deportations because the people being sent there are not from there.
Bukele, the Salvadorian ruler, is a fellow authoritarian, and told Marco Rubio he would disappear whoever they wanted for cash.
Guantanamo Bay is US territory, and our government would be responsible for what happens to these people, but by sending them to a cooperative 3rd party country, Trump and company have declared their hands clean of what happens to anyone sent there after that, and as they are out of US territory, we have no means to ever get any of them back.
They are now talking about sending people born in the US there if they are "bad enough."
Here is a pretty short article that gives you some more specifics if you want.
If you've ever spoken out against the government in writing/online, are part of a labor union, or any kind of minority or LGBT or care about anyone that is, you should get up to speed on this quickly.
