  • We have that in XMPP and Matrix. The problem is then to talk to people on it they all have to join the server on which you host your build. What if that server goes down? If you pay for hosting you're putting it into the hands of another corporation. If you self-host at home, what if your electricity goes out? Your internet gets cut off? Is everyone you convinced to ditch signal going to be happy and willing to sacrifice their convenience and ability to talk to people they want (or need) to talk to over ideology?

  • If community A sucks balls you can go to community B

    The free market works

  • Yeah I think I was confusing the Mark II with Mycroft as a whole

But it looks like the Mark III is going to be a thing

  • No stupid questions!

    No, stupid questions!

Yeah should be named the second one

  • There was a program called Mycroft that was eventually going to be like this but it got canceled. The files are probably still up on github though if you want to fork it

  • Probably because you're holding your breath in the whole time which cuts off oxygen to your brain, which is what causes fainting

  • When people say a politician "raised taxes." More often than not it's a tax that does not apply to 99.99% of the population and they raised it from 0.000001% to 0.000002%

But boy do those campaign ads look good

  • THAT IS WHY I AM ASKING

  • I'm on lemmy.one and have had zero issues

  • I am hoping to host an instance with one community to which anyone can subscribe but on which I will be the only user (as admin). Would my Raspberry Pi 4 suffice?

  • Lol before tiktok there was vines on Twitter, tiktok ain't original either

  • Banging my boss would be the biggest L of my life

  • 1000000% agree, you said it perfectly.

I especially get so pissed about houses. Houses are for living in, they are not speculative investments. In my culture, a family builds a house and then their descendants live in it for hundreds of years. The house is part of the family and is considered a living entity with its own god. When I visit Western so-called "developed" countries, all I see are shoddy houses thrown together by the lowest bidder and meant to last 50 years tops, within which time they'll have been bought and sold a dozen times by people who don't even know one another. Capitalism ruined Westerners' connection to the land and one another.
