  • TIRFs are not opposed to maleness. TERFism is a conservative psy-op that started when Mary Daly (who wrote magical divine goddess mother bullshit) and Janice Raymond (who accidentally kicked off trans studies by outing and harassing a trans woman named Sandy Stone - The Transexual Empire leading to Stone’s The Empire Strikes Back)

TIRFism recognizes that there is an axis of oppression that lies at the roots of imposed sex roles. The vast majority of women over history have been unarguably subject to men. Many women live in systems which are focused on controlling their sexuality, and are often barred and restricted from certain activities - due to both explicit and encultured messages.

The ideal TIRF society eliminates gender as a restriction. If anyone had actually read Andrea Dworkin, instead of taking Rush Limbaugh’s pastiche of her work at face value, they would find the TIRF society is one where gender is essentially just self expression. If we got rid of “man” or “woman” - maybe girls in Afghanistan would be able to go to school, or maybe sex wouldn’t be understood as a defilement of women (which I think is deeply connected to the problem of rape - rape is less an act of sexual desire and more a desire for subjugation that is tied to sexual power through this messaging that we desire to eliminate.)

The project of the TIRF is ultimately that the only way to truly end sexism would be to understand all humans as fundamentally ambiguous, to not hold anyone to any kind of sex role.

This is the fundamental irony behind the TERF movement. Rather than reject the gender and sex binary, they reify and enforce it. Daly was a wacky Catholic theologian who turned God into a mom, and decided that women were just special magical spiritual beings. This devotion to some kind of divine womanhood is common among the lesbian separatist types (it’s really disturbing seeing that space have the same deranged arguments of the 70’s…)

The problem is that TERFs are just not feminists. If Rowling cared about women, she wouldn’t be finding these women who realize that they can get their 15 minutes by intentionally throwing a boxing or fencing match. TERFs gleefully team up with the same groups that attack women’s reproductive health care - which I view as the most critical feminist issue at the moment (along the world wide surges in fascistic ideologies - which do tend to be expressions of a threatened male gender role, attempting to reassert those boundaries. The goddamn President is a serial rapist.)

That’s probably confusing and elaborate, there’s a lot of theory behind what I’m saying. I’m happy to answer or clarify, I think a critical part of countering this shit is to stop letting Rowling and the alt right redefine the term feminist.

  • My family abandoned me after my divorce - my ex husband did some fucked up manipulative shit. (“I want us to be poly/for you sleep with another guy” -> “he cheated on me” when I finally did it to both of our entire extended families.)

What has helped me coped more than anything is new hobbies. Rebuilding a self. I started taking pottery classes and made some outside social connections. Art is a really good means of the self exploration that teaches you who you are and what it means to be a person again. Therapy of course, but you have to find someone that clicks with you.

It’s been about two and half years since it happened. (Well, the divorce itself was a nightmarish year long hell.) I’m finally starting to feel like myself again.

I’d say Google your local vo-tech or library. Show up to cooking classes or book clubs or something. Something new, that honors the new person you must become.

  • I was a movie theatre projectionist when that movie came out.

It was miserable - people complained about the mixing, and it also blew out our speakers in a couple of auditoriums.

And the ending is such a weird stupid ass pull. It’s reminds me of Bioshock Infinite - physics is magic that we can to deus ex machina our way out of this half thought out plot.

  • “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

Christianity is nothing more than a cudgel for these people.

  • The last movie me and my ex watched together was Synecdoche, NY which basically gave him permission to toss me out like an old newspaper, since he read the message of that film as “other people are interchangeable background characters in your life.”

  • I’ve tried setting up bank draft for my electric like 6 times, to avoid the 3% “convenience fee” for using a credit card. For some reason, it will not work. They have the option, I set it up, it says I need to wait several days to use it, and then it just vanishes from my account.

Calling the company gets me a rude person who barely speaks English. Government subsidized monopolies. Internet is even worse.

  • They’ve been lying about what gender affirming care for kids looks like, why would they tell the truth about anything? There’s a coordinated effort to platform fake detransitioners, to claim that kids are getting handed out surgery and hormones willy nilly, to pretend that adult trans people don’t exist.

Arguing with these people is like trying to hold sand. They start with “I don’t want trans people to exist” and work backwards.

  • Mormonism is a religion founded in the late 1800’s by a guy named Joseph Smith who used to do fortune telling by “seeing” through rocks. He “found” some golden plates which were written in “Reformed Egyptian,” which no one else got to see. He “translated” them using the magic stones and the help of the Angel Moroni, and found that they had a story about Jesus coming to the Americas to teach the Native Americans who turn out to be the Lost Tribes of Israel. (It’s just a coincidence that his book seems to have a lot of ideas in common with a fiction book written around the time, and that “it came to pass” and other BoMism’s sound just like someone trying to write like the King James Bible.)

He later had a revelation from God that the only way to get to heaven was to marry lots of women, especially teenage girls. God made sure to send him a message to forward to his wife about how this was okay and she had to accept it or god wouldn’t be happy with her.

He also bought an Egyptian papyrus off of a PT Barnum type (may even have straight up been Barnum, been a billion years since I read Fawn Brodie’s No Man Knows My History) to translate that “Reformed Egyptian” into the “Book of Abraham.” This was before the discovery of the Rosetta Stone, so no one had any idea how to translate Egyptian hieroglyphs yet. (That papyri was lost for a century, but later discovered hidden in a picture frame. It was a mutilated Egyptian Book of the Dead.)

The Mormons had a tendency of pissing everyone off, and got chased out of Missouri (where the Garden of Eden is) and Illinois. Smith himself was killed in jail. They moved to Utah, where they could have as many child wives as they wanted. (Everyone forgets that the Republican Party was originally founded to oppose “the two barbarisms” - slavery and polygamy.) Brigham Young took the child wife thing to the next level, and also added lots more racism. (Black people are souls that sat out the original battle in heaven between Jesus and Satan. If they are really good they get to be servants on a white persons paradise planet after they die. Black Mormons couldn’t have the priesthood until the 1970’s - which all adult Mormon men need the priesthood to save their own families.)

They did eventually give up the polygamy because they wanted statehood (on earth - but guys still get extra spirit wives on their heaven planet.)

The current Church, like Scientology, is a real estate grift (they own billion dollar malls.) They also were responsible for things like Prop 8/attacking gay marriage in the late naughts.
