I think this is a half truth given events in Texas. They don't want a functional government unless they control it and it represents their interests. They being the few party elites.
Also what's the goal of scrambling jets when the threat is a passenger inside said jet? Are they gonna ask the pilot to pipe the radio to the PA and say "you better not blow up that plane because we're in charge and we said so?" Do they have a sniper on the wing ready to take out just one guy meanwhile depressurizing the whole fuselage, potentially explosively? Maybe Top Gun Tom Cruise can hit the guy with a burst of the 20mm? Seems like there's no point whatsoever. Best case they can say "yep it blew up" or "nope it didn't blow up."
I think Jon would be great as president. Definitely better than our current options. But if he was done with the Daily Show (and even if he never left) I wouldn't be surprised at all if he didn't want the actual job of being president.
Go to lemmyverse.net and load up your subscriptions with more active communities, and I'll bet you will barely notice that reddit is gone aside from less/slower (but better IMO) content and lower upvote counts.
That's one thing I like about zsh, or my config at least, because I use i3 and therefore tend to open lots of shells. History is mostly local until I hit return twice (two empty prompts) at which point I can get history from other sessions. It's stuck more global at that point though aside from future history.
I legitimately back up my history file. Mostly because it likes to truncate itself randomly (though this may have been fixed in zsh, or my config, because it's been a while). Just a systemd timer that triggers a shell script to copy it by date and rotate anything older than 100 copies.
Edit: WHY DID I SAY ANYTHING? After like 3 months of no problems, my history truncated itself to 3 entries a few minutes ago. I've only ever seen a few days of loss before that lol.
They probably want to pull a Chamberlain and sell a bunch of crappy buggy, inconsistent, error-prone addon services for $60/yr after you've already purchased the product.
But yeah, lesson mostly learned. Don't support companies who only offer cloud-dependent services because they will definitely turn on the customer when they reach the natural ceiling of people buying the product and start looking for extra ways to squeeze their customers.
Me too. It's important to remember that thumbs are critical for tool usage and having thumbs separate humans from most animals so being called a thumb is sort of a compliment.
IP assignment is extremely common, but there are almost always exceptions that you still own the IP if it's your own time, your own equipment, and not directly related to what you do for your employer.
The best time to plant a time-sinking tree is 100 years ago. The second best time is today.
