  • the Fediverse is growing, but still small. If anything (as much as I'm personally enjoying it) at this stage of growth, it would be still statistically likely to fade to irrelevance in a few years, so it would not even be big news. Seeing a couple of the Big Socials being dismantled this way at the same time is... something else. I'm getting tired too of all this coverage about Twitter and Reddit and start wishing Lemmy had filtering by keyword, but rationally I know it's granted.

  • This seems different, though. Google and Facebook still exist, with their respective logos as part of a parent company that mostly nobody, except for investors, should really care about. Maybe this is what will end up happening here as well, as Elon is sadly famous for saying outrageous things and then backtrack on them, change his mind or just never mention them again, but the way it’s been communicated Twitter and the bird logo are just going away completely.

  • is it just me or is this a diplomatic way to tell Putin to just stay in Russia without telling him "you're not invited any longer"? To me it sounds like "uuh.... man.... if you REALLY want to come you definitely won't be arrested here. Not by me, I mean. Oh, I got pressures, POWERFUL pressures and you ending up arrested or worse isn't off the table but hey... do come and visit anyway if you want. We're cool right?"

  • haha, I do have a @hotmail.com account. Granted, nowadays I use it mainly as my "spam" account (to be clear: I'm not sending spam, it's the account I give when I'm required to give an email or create an account) but hotmail was a big thing in the old days before gmail and that account still has sentimental value to me.
