I look at it the other way. In a free and prosperous armed society where common sense rules are respected and insisted upon by the majority who would be stupid enough to break the rules? Let us look at it some other ways. Ebay is one of the largest merchant structures in the world. It is not an authority, but has for decades now used in-house arbitration for disputes. Detroit has a private 'police force'. It is not an authority. It is a private defence org that also runs a volunteer community protection unit that uses psychology as its main policing tool. Historically we had Panarchy in Ireland. People regardless of territory could voluntarily join a tuath. It would offer legal services. If unsatisfactory the client could join another tuath. Even today way much more is spent on private security than on policing. Maratine law orignally ran on banishment. Did not pay your contract or larder bill. You could no longer dock your ship or be served at a tavern etc. Before the state co-opted the law, there was Common Law! Law does not require authority.

FLOSS is Voluntaryism - it only requires voluntary participation.

Government is when an involuntary institution has a mafia protection racket. They show up after a crime and write a report. Anarchism is when you take responsibility for your own protection.

Some people have management and coordination skills. Others specialise in an area that fits into a greater project. There is nothing wrong in a voluntary structure system. It is only the initiation of force upon structure (see. Government) or otherwise that is a problem.

There are two ways for humans to interact: voluntarily, with consent, permission, through agreement and contract OR through force, coercion, mandation & compulsion.

Politics employs the later. When the former is violated it can require self-defence. FLOSS is a legal (not political) self-defence.

It is what Free Market economist Hayek called 'Spontaneous Order'. You can either have free spontaneous order as evidenced in a libre market and voluntary interaction OR controlled chaos as evidenced in governments with their IP, as well as socialist aspiring Communists societies.

Yes, Communism fails to acknowledge human psychology and will therefore never work. People are individuals with self interests. This can never be controlled (without violence) by a socialist/communist society. The good news is you only need selfishness in a free market society. In order for people to get their needs met they need to offer value. Value exchange means all people are better off (on average).

Did you know the Scandanavian countries have more economic freedom than the USA! Its their saving grace. They also have many private roads. The early 20th c saw capitalist Nordic countries become very wealthy and store up sovereign funds. These funds were than blown dry in the later half of the century as they became more socialist. They have now abandoned many socialist policies and again adopted freedom. They do however still have high taxation.

The counter point would be - with only state protectionism in the form of IP the crony-capitalist sector would monopolise and dominate.

Wrong! Linux and open source only shows that the profit motive is not the only motive. One should broaden the definition of profit to encompass value in all its forms. ie A person can gain value from the satisfaction of DIY as it can be self-empowering. One can gain emotional value from sharing. It also invokes the law of reciprocation - value exchange but without a $ sign. The Open source ecosystem is also heavily funded by business who relies on open source components. It is a capital investment.

Many will scream 'but FLOSS is political'. In fact the opposite is true! FLOSS is a reaction against the political imposition called Intellectual Property. It is ANTI-political!

You do know Capitalism was making the slave trade unfeasable. Technology is superior at mass production. It increasingly made sense to invest in machinery etc. The most skilled slaves were eventually given free reign and only had to pay a fee to their master. White nations and their Capitalist technology ended slavery - at least in the Western world.

Communism needs a state as shown by Socialism needing a state. Socialism being the path to (anarchist) Communism. A totalitarian state no less. Yes and the National SOCIALISTS were also collectivists (and Totalitarians) - correct. National Socialists and International Socialists were enemies as they were fighting for the same ideological ground. Many would in fact would switch sides.

Privately owned and in kahoots with the government - in the USA. Other central banks are government institutions. They all force the tender upon those within borders and demand payment in that tender - taxes. A true Free Market would have market derived currencies that people would voluntary adopt. No force. The very heart of 'Capitalism', that being capital, is not free, not libre. It is captured by private and/or state entities and controlled. True, although central banks are a tenant of communism, the situation in the USA is more akin to that of Fascism - the partnership of state and private business. The term Capitalism itself in its original meaning, as defined by Marx, is what we would more likely now call Crony-Capitalism. We need to abolish Capitalism/Crony-Capitalism and embrace Laissez-faire. Libre Software and libre markets!
