This is why I use Signal with the small chats and groups I'm in.

"Decaffeinated" does not necessarily mean "caffeine free," but the amount of caffeine should be significantly reduced to the point of being pointless... Unless you happen to drink a lot of it.

I think most of the answers are a lot more helpful, but somebody had to "well actually..." it.

That's true, I noticed on a couple subreddits that votes don't matter unless you're mildly popular, and it's even possible to get comments throttled for being unpopular enough. Downvotes don't do much besides pushing your comments off the screen for the most part.

I think it's the gamification. Mastodon degamifies Twitter in a way Lemmy can't really do with the classic Reddit system.

Votes go up, votes go down, you can see people winning and losing here. It's fun, even if it's in a bad way.

Mastodon having a way bigger algorithm curve before you start seeing interesting stuff remains throughout.

I must be in the wrong place because I haven't seen one of those for a while. I knew about that flavor, but I haven't seen it around for a while. Even Amazon lists them as Canadian imports with marked up prices

As far as I can tell, it was basically intended as a cryptocurrency pushing network from the beginning. Here's some marketing babble right from their site:

More PR speak about zaps (cryptocurrency exchanges), wallets, etc are all accessible from the official website.

That's what Nostr is supposed to be for. Looking for ways to monetize decentralized social media. So far, they've only imagined cryptocurrency transactions.

Toyota wants to lock people out of features built into their cars.

Would you say the same thing if they started charging monthly for using the seat warmers?

Toyota has lost its way, using their "smart" cars to lock people out of features that they don't subscribe to.

I recommend people avoid them.
