Oh so someone calls themselves a liberal and that makes everything they do an example of liberalism?

Everyone defines themselves by their role. If you're only living for yourself, not helping anyone or doing anything for anyone else, why live?

It's not a normative statement. I don't necessarily think it's good. I just don't think people can be happy being useless

The people who are predicting that AI will replace X% of jobs are usually not qualified to make that determination. They don't do those jobs, and they don't have any idea what is involved in those peoples jobs. They are way too high up the corporate ladder to have actually been doing any real work in the last 10 years. They were sold some AI product which promises to lay off thousands of workers, and they seem to have believed it implicitly.

What's sickening to me is how enthusiastic they seem to be about ruining their employees lives

I think there is no possible world where people are without meaningful work and are happy about it. Even if they collected $10,000 a month and got to spend all of their time doing hobbies and spending time with family, it would feel pointless and hollow. Why have a family? Why raise children? Why do anything if there's no struggle, if you're not the one providing for your kids? I think if AI replaces humans in the workplace, even with UBI, humans would cease to exist shortly thereafter as our lives will have become meaningless

When I quit meta, I wanted people to use signal, but my dad refused to move to another app. We just talk via sms now. My wife and her family overseas are on Line, which is kind of like a Japanese whatsapp (maybe closer to WeChat). It has e2e encryption but it could be the same story with WhatsApp where you don't really know if they're reading your messages or not
