  • Sure, that's fine. I use interactive rebase for "cleaning" a lot. I'm just saying it doesn't make a difference for diffing (as you can diff any commit against any other) and doing it as a matter of routine sounds like it could skip potentially useful history.

I mostly rebase but if a branch has things happen in a sequence that matters, I would merge it instead, for example.

  • Sort of. What passes for "debate" often isn't as controlled as it ought to be and people don't necessarily know how it should be done - "what do you mean, 'yeah well, your mother' isn't a valid argument?!".

When it's clearly bad faith, there's no way to get any value out of that situation, so I'd be edging slowly towards the door.

  • Squashing seems like you'd potentially lose out on info and have a harder time isolating the changes you're looking through. I guess it depends on how much has been changed and whether some of the commits along the branch were more important than others.

I also don't think the reset is necessary, you should be able to diff the branch head against whatever you want.

  • That, or you’re met with “why on earth do you want to do that?”

To be fair, the XY problem is huge in anything coding related. Newbie wants to do X, has a vague and terribly wrong idea about how to do it (Y), then asks how to do Y instead. To give a "correct" answer to Y, assuming the question makes enough sense to have a correct answer, is less helpful than trying more or less tactfully to figure out what the actual goal was.

  • I definitely didn't think so at the time, but I consider GoT S8 a blessing in disguise now. It has managed to take my considerable interest in the story/universe and shit on it. Absolute smithereens.

So, the fact that Winds and whatever the last one was supposedly supposed to be called are never going to come out actually doesn't bum me out anymore.

  • Not just sedatives, digoxin (digitalis) and amitriptyline (tricyclic antidepressive) which are both extremely cardiotoxic in large doses. This stuff is really meant to get shit done...

  • Something can go "like chopped shit" - smoothly, I guess.

Thinking suitcase (being a gutter mind).

Painting Satan on the wall (making mountains out of mole hills).

X on the ceiling (well done/good for you) - no idea, don't ask.

Whittling splinters (splitting hairs) I guess is fairly obvious.

One can also be "snowed down" (an idiot), an onion sausage (idiot), way out in the field (clueless, lost, idiot).

Something is "completely Texas" when it's chaotic, uncontrolled, unregulated or just generally nuts.

A Northerner might describe something that only barely worked/made it on time as "by [one] cunt hair".

  • It's kinda sorta stoicism, just phrased in a judgmental, dismissive way, that is also pointlessly and rather toxically gendered. It's close to the minimum amount of helpfulness "advice" can possibly have.

Being done with stuff feels good if your reward system is working properly. Other than that, while you can have "inertia" issues getting started and that feels kinda stressful, procrastination tends to get stressful too, after a while. At a certain point you'll just have delayed the gratification to fit in some more worried and often unsatisfying faffing around.

Since pushing through whatever seems to work for you and make you feel better, I would focus on that instead of nonsense about not being macho enough.

  • No no, they're awesome. Every one a masterpiece of modern comedic ingenuity. I mean, picking a random noun, then typing "randomnoun but it's jeans" into a shitty AI image generator, then doing it again a dozen times? Fucking genius.

Maybe I'm just old and grumpy, but this reminds me of Reddit's obsession with rage comics - except those were higher effort, incredibly. Maybe we can go back to the stroganoff? How about something with dead babies next? Bring the terrible Gërman Fïsh Mëmë back? Knock-knock jokes? Maybe people literally stepping on rakes over and over, as seeing the 700th jouch meme only feels like it?
